Reducing the height of our new Danish Coffee table....

I've just bought a new coffee table for my lounge area and I'm about to take the legs to a joiner and have them cut down to ensure it works in the space. I now have the dilemma of how much to cut off?
I've read that coffee tables should be approx 18" high and 1-2" lower than the sofa? but I feel that the table would work better in our space if at around 15.5" as our sofas seats are around 17" high.
Any advice would be gratefully received
