1950's fireplace
Comments (31)Your house looks lovely, I really like all the original doors and panelling. I can see that you wouldn't want to style everything in a 1930s way, but understand matching/complementing the colours of the fireplace are quite restrictive too! I would try a few testers of browny-toned greys for the walls to get the fireplace to blend in rather than stand out. I couldn't live with a brown and cream room but suggest something like F & B 'light grey' or 'old white' might work. I have a room in F & B 'cord' which is very easy to live with and would work. As for furniture.... I think you can go modern for an eclectic look but just be careful of the colours so you don't get a horrible clash....See Morekerb appeal for 1950s house
Comments (6)thanks! its semi detached. The outhouse on the left of the picture to the white enclosed porch is ours. The porch is a newer addition and whilst it's dry and functional I think it looks a bit cheap and ugly, so I'm looking for suggestions on what style to replace it with......See MoreHow to improve the look of this 1950's house? Comments (8)Hi I have added a more recent photo to the original post with the new gates and the same door. I have also had new windows identical to the old ones. Unfortunately the wires will have to stay as that is the cat 5 for the internet. I hate the net curtains but my windows are so large (2.5 m) its like living in a goldfish bowl when people walk past, so they have to stay ...lol. Currently have an apple tree in the front garden. We are not allowed fencing or walls. Any other ideas are very much appreciated and I love the porch you have suggested but i think it would be too big for my house!...See More1950's extension ideas needed
Comments (4)How exciting about your new house. I've seen loads of these layouts and I think it's great that you're keeping a separate room, it's nice to be around everyone, but it's also lovely to be able to snuggle up somewhere quiet too. I would look at moving the kitchen into the dining room, putting the units against the sitting room wall with a large island which will give you lots more space than you currently have. You will also be able to cook facing the garden and the rest of the room. This will then give you the whole back of the house for the dining table and casual seating for chatting and family life, whilst being connected to the garden. I offer a free and no obligation zoom chat if you wanted to bounce some ideas around over a cup of tea and see what layout might work for you.
