Can you please advise me how we can decorate my elderly mother's loung
Comments (10)I would start with her bedroom, that's the area she wil rest. Keep it neutral and and peaceful. Make the curtains cheerful that will be the first thing she'll see when she wakes up. A four feet bed will be comfortable for her and find out how much it will cost to raise the bed ...at a certain age it is more comfortable to get in and out of. Table lamps which by a touch will light up a big alarm clock... Older people always want to know the time! Two bedside tables. Soft carpet for her feet and a big collage on the wall with photos of her family. I would get rid of the wardrobe is is so huge and if you look on your local ebay and put you postcode in you will be able to get a good bargain. Look for a comfy chair too with a floorlight for reading. If space a nice little table (local ebay) will make it complete. Your mum prefers her wall painted but again a roll of cheerful wallpaper for one wall in her bedroom will make it special for her. Try to get rid of all the clutter like those two shopping trolleys perhaps in a cupboard in the hall? I have done a lot of houses up on a shoestring and it is a challenge but can be so satisfying. One thing I have learnt ....ALWAYS finish one room completely before going on to the next room. It helps when you feel a bit down about the project and one look in the finished room gives one a big boost to continue!!! Good Luck....See MoreNeed help with lounge decor
Comments (8)Thanks for the pics. I would pull the sofas apart a little as the arms are overlapping a little or try one in front of the door/window and accessorise the table between them. In terms of colour if the carpet is staying I'd look at a warm greige for a more modern look or a pale but warm green to work with the paper as well as the floor. There's quite a lot of dark furniture, I'd paint the door frames and maybe the china cabinet, something like a pale turquoise? You could also paint the dining chair frames just to lighten them up (appreciate you may not want to though!). I would also paint the fire but in a whitewash, build up the layers so the brick is still showing through rather than a solid white look which can look cold. Perhaps swap some of the striped cushions for some florals and add a textured throw over one arm. I would try grouping some of the accessories together. Is there a plug socket where the wallpaper is as a lamp would look good and add some height? In future I might consider a coffee table or upholstered footstool. Maybe a plant next to the tv in a jute or other natural plant holder. I'll try and find some pics for accessorising the fireplace. Is it a cabinet to the left of the fire as you could dress this as a seat with cushions?...See MoreWoad blue lounge, need help with decor
Comments (5)Hi. It looks a lovely room, all of the colours in your ideabook or shades of would work or a mint green with coral. I'd add a mustard chair (this one is nearly chartreuse). You could use a shade of purple as an accent colour for cushions etc. Add a gold/brass mirror over the fire and I'd go for glass coffee table/s so you can still see the floor beneath. I'd add a floor lamp over the sofa (I keep posting this plug in from westelm as can only find this one or one from made!) alternatively if you move the plant you could add a swing arm or arc lamp where the plant is. I would actually go for a grey patterned rug if the floor has grey tones as it won't make the room feel smaller. Again this is westelm and it has a yellow thread running through it but they have a number of grey patterned rugs. I'd go for Roman blinds on the windows. I might just actually go for shelves in the alcove to make the room feeling smaller, alternatively a hanging cabinet beneath shelves can work, will see I find I can find pictures....See MoreI want my through lounge to be just a living area
Comments (16)Apologies for the radio silence. My wifi has been down. Thank you Carolina for your input. You are all so giving of your time. I think I've finally settled on elements of all of the ideas, but would really appreciate some final input, if you can visualise what I am trying to get across. The "down time" has given me some space to reflect and also to look at furniture. I dragged my other half to DFS and Sofology this weekend, much to his dismay! :) I'm looking at moving the door, as suggested by MATH to the other side of the support wall. That would give a bigger expanse for the TV to sit on a nice big unit, more central along that wall. With a big Loch Leven sofa from DFS in charcoal leather along the opposite wall. I'm thinking of the small Joules Windsor (DFS) in yellow velvet for in front of the bay. This would give us ample seating around the telly. I'll still have enough room for 2 big comfy fireside chairs in charcoal velvet, a square charcoal leather pouffe and a coffee table. I have dark stripped floorboards and so will probably have white walls, big monochrome prints on the walls and lots of scatter cushions to bring colours together. I know you have all been so generous with your time and ideas so far. What do you think of this plan?...See Morecharleee
