Living room sofa dilemma!

I am buying a new corner sofa with the material shown in the picture attached. I can't decide what colour carpet and furniture would go well with this. I'm looking to get a TV unit and coffee table, and we will be laying new carpet - the thing is I'm not very good when it comes to choosing things that go well! Can anybody help?

Hi, I'd choose a creamy colour carpet to lighten the room (if you don't have kids or red wine). I think cushions in navy blue and cream would look very smart with it.

You could put many other neutrals with this, changing the tone with texture or even subtle pattern rather than colour .
That leaves you the chance to splash out with colour on your accessories, which is a much less risky option if like me, you are not confident with colour matching.
If you get a few cushions wrong it won't break the bank!

I think that the fire place is beautiful as it is and does not need any make up!! The sideboard on the right is no so big at all and if painted with different colour than grey and distressed could become a much lighter piece with its own character. I would take the top off the left one and again shabby chick it, filling the doors with ornaments to make it more interesting. It is amazing what a transformation you can achieve with a bit of chalk paint! Hi Karen, What a fantastic statement sofa - this is going to look great in your Living room. I would suggest you keep all your walls one colour, as the impact will be from your sofas, but I’d avoid putting a darker colour behind your sofa as it may result in this statement blending into the wall colour and not having the ‘wow’ piece you are wanting. I would recommend either Potters Clay 3, which is a pale, greyed off, taupe colour, or Chalk Blush 3 which is a pale, redder toned neutral. Both of these colours have a red undertone so will sit nicely against the purple colouring in your sofa. I’ve picked out a gorgeous mirror and lamp which I think will look great in your living room (below). Sukiharrison and Odd job Hadyman, Thank you very much for your comments :) We actually intended to have the sofa on the opposite wall and built in cabinets and shelves exactly like you've suggested but I absolutely loved this big L shape sofa so desided to have it as it is now. There is no problem to move one part of the sofa to the opposite wall and the other to the wall against the window, but for now this is more convenient lay out. The shelves have to wait for now but I imagine them in white. After hearing a few suggestions about the secondary light by the window I will probably listen to the pros and remove it In favour of a floor or table lamp. No curtains.. For now :) I have a big thing about dust and would like this house to be as easy to clean as possible and generally don't like curtails Over radiators. Thou I understand this will affect the appearance I'd like to keep it simple.

Hello i am desperately looking for ideas with my new living room. It’s driving me a bit crazy as I’m so unsure. I am purchasing a 1960s/1970s house however don’t want to decorate or design the interior in mid century modern style as I was brought up with that. Im looking to try and achieve a relaxing living room look. The flooring is dark wood Karndean and the room has double aspect windows facing east and west. Im thinking of re-using my light stone/cream 2 seater chesterfield type sofa but would like the room to have a welcoming warm feel. Currently the chimney breast is painted blue which I’d like to change as my previous living room was very blue! However I do have light denim faded blue linen curtains which may work . Maybe a tan sofa but I don’t think that would be enough contrast . Below is photo of the room . Any advice would be so helpful . Please .

Hi Chris the fabric looks like it is mainly grey with white flecks. If this is the case then go for a soft tone of grey on the walls. collect some colour charts from the decorating shop near you they are free. Furniture depends on how modern/contemporary you want to go. Wenge(not quite black) is good with grey but so can modern square looking oak if you want a softer look. use Houzz to source some images and make a mood board there will be grey schemes on there to draw ideas from
