Industrial style shelves

I'm really keen to put up my own industrial style shelves in or bedroom. Something very similar to the image below.
Only problem being that I can't seem to find the components I need for it online anywhere. These images came from an American blog who said thy got all their materials from Lowe's but our equivalent homebase/screw fix just don't seem to stock them. Any suggestion in where I can source these bits??

I have a few vintage garden implemets (rake, hoe, etc.) which I would love to use as curtain rails somewhere, just not sure if these are the rooms to do it in... I managed to salvage a wall to the side of the kitchen so ended up just painting the back kitchen wall in the same colour as the units (well itt's a different tone due to the paint finish) and it's quite dramatic and I love it. If I had done brick slips, they would have gone on afterwards and been fitted around the units to save money. retrospectively, the brick slips cost the same as a full brick and although the original builder said it would be cheaper to tile with slips rather than to build a brick wall, the actual bricklayer (after he finished the job) disagreed! He said he could have done block work up the units and bricked all the exposed areas. Probably would have cost the same as tilers are not cheap! Doh....See MorePoll: rustic style or industrial style?

Comments (10)I don’t know whether you have children in the house but looking again at your cooker position, I would be concerned about safety. Having a clear surface both sides of a hob is advised so that you have somewhere to place a hot pan. It’s also close to a doorway which isn’t ideal. When we put in a new kitchen in our last house 18 years ago we were told we couldn’t have a hob on the end of a run or next to a walkway & I imagine safety guidelines have progressed since then. 9 years agolast modified: 9 years agoHey Marc, I think our entire project cost around £1k, but there was a lot of shelves and as you said, much bigger than what you're looking for.
The shelves sit on the connectors, they aren not connected to the wall in any way. You need to ensure that you have a circular cutter that is large enough for the pole to slip through but not the connector. Ive attached a pic for you to see how the shelves sit.
The angle grinder was needed to cut the poles to length, all though most suppliers will cut for a price if you provide them with a cutting list. However I would suggest having one to hand to do any last minute changes. I didn't know you could cut them with a tile cutter, but worth a shot.
Issues, we live in a victorian house without a single straight wall. We also have very few joists in the walls, so we had to be creative. We used the base of the poles and created a straight line with them, and cut down the backs of the shelves so touch the wall. Much easier that way.
I attached them to both the floor and the wall. We attached the base plates with Stixall glue which is stronger than anything I have ever encountered. We have a tiled floor so were unable to bolt in. And then screwed it into the wall as well. Its beyond solid!
