Need inspiration for the front of my house and driveway!
Comments (43)This is a handsome house. First...symmetry. Can you make the front pillars the same height. I would lower the LH one to match RH. A strong iron railing along the LH side and in the small front piece LH. Keep front door a strong colour....dark green/blue, navy, whatever, and paint the iron railigs the same colout. Avoid lots of small pots...messy and lots to water. You could i) have a narrow raised bed along the RH wall between you and the next property planted with a mix of small evergreen shrubs and trailing plants..small Choysia Ternata, etc., There is a trailing euphorbia (Amagloides ?) which is sculptural but relaxed. ii) Acquire or have built two or three large tree pots. When they are empty, position them in various places, with bamboo canes, to see where they would work best, and how many you want. I would suggest something deciduous with autumn colour and blossom, like a prunus autumnalis; a crab apple; a quince on dwarf stock; a columnar flowering cherry,Prunus Amanogawa....the choice is huge. Avoid cottagey annuals and too much patchy, mixed planting. I would keep pots square, in harmony with the raised bed. This house is formal and urban. Keeo it elegant and with strong lines broken by the foliage and trailers. I needs beauty, not prettiness. cheers...See MoreSunlight OR bay window?
Comments (9)Titiankim that was also our original idea before we extended our kitchen into the hall. We planned to knock through into the dining room and swap the two rooms round so that the kitchen was more spacious and looking on to the garden. That being said, unfortunately the cost was way way too much so we opted for a galley style kitchen. We’ve opened up the kitchen/utility and the porch is becoming a w/c. Some of the house isn’t on the plans but basically there is a workshop and outdoor w/c attached to the utility but with no access from inside the house. This has also been knocked through so we have a long utility/boot room. Love to see some pics of your changes....See MoreFront garden to driveway conversion
Comments (22)Traditionally, drives have gone in a straight line up to the house, which was fine when the family only owned one car but since then many of us have two and it is a pain having to move cars around. With this in mind, I suggested to my husband to curve a new driveway around under the bay window, a bit like a tree trunk with a branch. Mindful of not totally tarmacing, we have been able to keep grass areas on both sides. My husband took some convincing, mindful of extra cost and he being the man, that this was his domain but it works we are very pleased with the result....See MoreHelp with tiny open plan with bay window
Comments (12)Wow @rinked! Thank you very very much for taking the time to shaffle the furnitures around for me. That's great!!! :) Really really appreciate it!! I do hope I won't lose the cosy feeling of the living room to be honest but I really feel I lack space to move around right now. From time to time, we also use the place to host any guests over with an airbed or use it to put laundry to dry so space is really vital to us. The sofa is actually orange, see photo below, and I don't really like the colour so I was thinking to buy a sofa cover to dress it up. I have heard designers advise to use light colours for the couch so not sure if I should pick a beige or a light pattern like the ones below. And I was also thinking of a rug as well so I guess the best thing is to first buy the sofa cover and then move to the rug to match everything. You can find the pictures of the different cupboards below: I do know and understand that this is far from ideal... But when I bought everything I was just in a hurry to do so since we didn't have ANY storage within the place. I do want to repaint them at some point but not sure this can be done within the house and we don't have a garden or so. Looking forward to your answers people!!! Your help is valuable and greatly appreciated!!! Really praise google for finding you!!! :D...See MoreDanny Tyler
