Planning a concrete wetroom do they stay mould free unlike grout tile

Hello,

I am considering a conrete wetroom as have found the staining and mouldyness of tiles and grout a pain in our last bathroom, but does anyone have one and does it get stained by washing products/cleaning products ? does it smell damp after prolonged use ? and is there an alternative you guys know of ? thanks ! Lima

There is a product called Breton cire which is suitable, have a search on the internet for a local supplier. I would think without good ventilation eveything will get mould in a damp atmosphere also you can get antibacterial grout.

Venetian plastering looks like marble and have been told you can add something to it to make it water and mould proof
Usually very expensive though

Looks like an old thread but l'd like to comment anyway. Leave it as is. This is a great Mediterranean look. The grout is fine - a white grout would look rather blank here, and l'm so glad the mirror is simple and you placed it on a simple wood backing. The concrete basin stand adds an understated industrial touch whilst the style of the porcelain fittings is perfectly timeless and l like taps too. The shower sure does need a glass screen to keep water from raining all over the place! You could make the blue pop out further by using a combination of grey and two blues in your towels. Well done for this brave success!

I'm looking to renovate the ensuite of my 2 bed flat and came across photos of open plan bathrooms. Some of the photos look great and I'm considering it as I don't have much room to work with in the bathroom and my bedroom has room I can use. I'm looking at moving the basin into the bedroom area, which would free up space for a bath and shower. I was thinking of making the basin look less bathroom-y and more like a makeup desk using wood and soft furnishing and a full length mirror. The rest of the bathroom would be behind a wall (no door). Main problem is that the door to the bedroom will open to the the basin (the rest of the bedroom is on the left), which I guess would put people off. I quite like the idea but I'm concerned it would put off potential buyers (more so after reading the comments). Should I stick with a traditional ensuite? I can put a bath and shower in there but I think it would be too cramped or I can loose the bath and have more room with just a shower. What do you think?

Tadelakt or other polished plaster or even concrete in bathroom?

Hi Lucy, Loving the concept you have chosen! i would recommend you do the Tadelakt on the long bath wall as you are planning, plus all three walls in the shower area. i would also do the bulkheads on both sides. Then either tile or paint the rest of the bathroom (its a bit difficult to judge without seeing the space properly). If budget allows, i would do the whole room and ceiling in Tadelakt. In my experience its easier to keep clean than grouted mosaic tiles in a wet area. I completely understand your concerns about Tadelakt so heres a useful article about maintenance. i would use this same cleaning process for the whole bathroom and use an E cloth (which is so you wont need to use any other chemicals). the article also recommends that if you do need to use cleaning products elsewhere then its best to spray the cloth and then clean. https://betterhomeblog.com/how-to-take-care-of-tadelakt/ I also agree with you about the larger hexagonal tiles.
