Upcycle colours

I want to paint the frame of this bureau in chalk psint and leave the wood tones in the drawers and top. It's going in a room with purple and mocha coloured sofa. Any suggestions of colour chalk paint to use

Greyish with a warm purple tone.

Haha E D I don’t know much but I know how to paint furniture! I used Little Greene Paint Co water based eggshell paint on some bookcases. I used 2 coats of primer and 2 coats of eggshell, and they look fab. They do loads of colours and you can order the paint chart online for free or Brewers have them. Lovely paint to use. i did use Annie Sloan chalk paint on an old pine wardrobe and it was awful - the wood bled through it and it really dragged when brushing, making my hand ache. It also needs finishing either with wax or varnish, so not as easy as the blurb makes out! Heres one bookcase (sorry E D!)

Yes 60s and 70s wooden furniture was often, but not exclusively teak. The chairs in the photo look lighter than teak to me. GPlan and other makers often used a veneer though. You could perhaps use a teak (colour) oil, stain or varnish if you like that darker colour.

What a lovely piece! the possibilities are endless with furniture like this. If you want to make a statement with it, I would paint it black, add gold handles and line inside the shelves with wallpaper. Or for a softer look, you could just paint it all a pale grey and add black handles. Either way I would also replace the glass with something more modern or remove the glass doors. Im no expert on upcycling, but i usually just give a light sand then a coat of primer before painting. Good luck with it, Would love to see photos when its done!

Farrow & Ball do a lovely colour with an awful name - Elephants Breath - it is a very warm grey that works well with purple. I use it a lot in projects where furniture is to be up-cycled and it always gives great results. Prep the bureau and undercoat the areas you are painting with white first then two coats of the Elephants Breath.
The photos show it used to paint built in wardrobe in a master suite, an orange pine headboard and footboard and a sideboard before and after.
