Hi Rini, we have a selection of similar tiles, for the shower tiles you could used our Dark Grey Mercia or our Metro range if you'd like a choice of colours. For the shower niche and recessed shelf we have various decorative tiles that can be used, take a look at our Orient, Tempo and Jamestown tiles for some ideas!

They'll never go out of style Tom - NEVER!! Haha! A10) Ohhh I love eclectic style, Maxine, and yes, I mix styles all the time in my own home! I will say, for as easy as it sounds to just throw everything you love into a space, it’s actually one of the hardest looks to do really well – that’s not to discourage you of course because when it all comes together, it’s incredibly satisfying! While it may be tempting to just include everything you like from all different styles together in one space, the resulting feeling will be one of over-stimulation and confusion. So the secret of this seamless integration requires creativity and some self-imposed boundaries. Sticking with a structured colour palette will give the room cohesiveness without making the room flat and uninteresting. Start with a neutral base for your larger pieces, your paint colours and/or your flooring as a means of grounding the space. Pay attention to how pieces relate to one another and how they relate to the room as a whole. One oversized piece is absolutely fine but 3 or 4 will make the room look cluttered and uncomfortable. Despite using mid-century hoop chairs alongside a more traditional chesterfield in my own living room, the backs of the chairs are of similar height to the low-lying sofa back. There is continuity of the eyeline and nothing jars too dramatically. You also want to ensure that when borrowing from different eras, you mix and match throughout the space – having a mid-century console table with art of the same era hanging above it and then a Victorian style fireplace with an ornate mirror in a different part of the room is going to look ‘off’. Take that artwork and hang it above the fireplace instead and perhaps use the more ornate mirror above the console table instead! Hope that helps!

Dear @judibutler I assume you are referring to a wall which is wholly above ground and that you have completely ruled out damp tracking into the wall from above. A lot depends on the size and thickness of the wall and other factors, such as if the building is listed. Damp penetration (driving rain) through granite walls has been an ongoing problem in church towers in the southwest of England for some time. Ironically the problem often seems to get worse after re-pointing in lime. Granite is fairly impervious and was often in laid in large blocks meaning trapped water has little chance of getting out through thin mortar joints. Historic England held an excellent conference on the subject in 2013; the transcript of proceedings can be found at: http://content.historicengland.org.uk/content/docs/research/damp-towers-conf2013-programme-transcripts.pdf A roughcast lime render coat may help, but there could equally be voids in the wall which are holding damp and may need grouting. However, grouting is a very tricky and expensive technique which should not be undertaken lightly, and only works if one knows exactly where the voids are. Over-cladding the whole wall with semi-sacrificial weather boarding may be a last resort. This and rendering are likely to require planning consent. Depending on where you are located, a company like ArchiMetric (www.archimetrics.co.uk) could insert some interstitial moisture monitors into the wall to try and find out exactly where and when the damp is getting in and how it is moving through the wall, but this may be expensive. Some localised investigation by dismantling pockets of stone may be useful. The Society of Ancient Buildings helpline (mornings only on 020 7456 0916) may be able to help with specialists in your area. Most importantly try to get an understanding of how water is getting into and moving through your wall before you embark on anything. If your problems relate to below-ground damp then a different response will be needed.

The house has been extended over the years at ground floor level in a haphazard manner and has lost its original simple but workable layout. There are two load bearing walls running from the north-east side of the house to the south-west side and it appears that these carry the first floor joists. To create an open plan type of arrangement will entail demolishing these walls and inserting large and expensive RSJ’s and major construction work. The house will need to be vacated for a substantial period, probably in the order of 12 months. I suggest that a more practical solution would be to simply add on to the existing structure and just tweak areas of the existing ground floor. In this way the work can be undertaken without vacating the house and the resulting layout can produce the open feeling the occupants are looking for. A plan showing one such solution is attached although there are several similar variations. Both add-on’s (the sitting area and the new kitchen) could have a variety of roof types but a flat roof would be preferable I suspect. It will also be much easier to forecast the likely cost of the project by extending with new build rather than trying to shoe-horn what is required into an existing area. Several 1930’s houses have been successfully altered and brought up to date in this manner. HI Kieran, There a lot of websites online where you can research the surrounds like: https://www.firesandsurrounds.co.uk/t/hearths-and-backs/marble-and-granite I see what you mean with two rooms and one whole in the wall. The other idea that you could do is have two very different looks for each room, I know the whole idea was to bring them together and you can still achieve that. You could have one room which is more formal, your guests would enter in there first, then the snug would be exactly that, more casual and cosy - that way you could still keep both fireplaces, but changing the feel of the room. To keep them both connected you could use the same wall colour throughout but say change the accessories and furniture, like mirrors, and sofa's etc. If you're still umm and ahhing the next best option would be to get the wall out first, live with the fireplace for a few days or a week first before you redecorate, see if it still bothers you then you'll know for sure if you need to have one of them take out. Then do full on decorating, painting walls etc. I hope this helps?! I would love to see what it looks like in the end, sounds like a fantastic project you have on your hands!
