Extension kitchen layout wobbles.......can anyone offer advice?
Comments (36)Brilliant things to consider Minnie thank you. Only 4 of us in the house, and we do have a seperate dining room. I only want casual bar stool seating for the kitchen but am struggling with where else to place 4 bar stool. Haven't got the width of room to have them all down the side of island facing the wall of units, plus I really like the sleek look of an island and didn't want to interupt that streamlined look by having seating around one end in an L shape. Can't thing of any other option unless someone can thing of something to consider I'd be very grateful. I had my heart set on a mirror splash back but got put off as people said I would have water marks on it all the time from the sink.....is that everyone's experience of a mirror splashback or might I have made a hasty judgement? I was thinking of a washed light grey oak type flooring or a warm oak flooring but was worried if I went for oak ( this would be my colour preference) that it wouldn't work as I will have nothing else oak in the room. It's a south facing room, sun all day and evening so was thinking of a off white light grey tone on the walls and lots of chrome......again struggling to know how to incorporate that and what to put with it colour/ accent/ decor wise to make it feel comfy and not clinical. I'd love dark coloured glass slider but all windows in house are white so I had discounted it. Minnie thanks a million for taking the time on your bumpy train journey to post, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have your input...See MoreWhite kitchen - Matt or gloss? Help....
Comments (15)You have all been very helpful, I think on balance I am leaning toward Matt, I have looked back at my insipration photos and the majority are matt, coupled with potential issues with keeping gloss clean and marks ..... and the genius idea from daisy England of those magic sponges to tackle Matt marks, I think I have myself a decision! Thanks all x...See MoreAdvice on Kitchen/dining area/family room layout
Comments (12)We are planning on putting a utility room in the second garage (which is that new little room at the top of the garage in Floorplan 2) as currently the utility room is in the garage (cold and next to the rakes!). We looked into the breakfast room idea as it was my favourite layout (and more conventional) but were told by the builder to go out to make it flush with kitchen external wall, would cost £20k+ and we'd only get a few feet more width before it starts blocking the view of the garden from the conservatory. It is really a dilemma - I think my biggest problem is how the current floorplan looks on paper - I feel it would probably work well but I don't think I'd even view a house with such a nuts floorplan (except out of curiosity!) :)...See MoreAnyone good at kitchen design?
Comments (26)I use Photoshop for these things :-) Your kitchen will be lovely! I really like the dark grey gloss and the white worktop. Do you know which parts will be tiled? And up to where? I'd go for the white tile. Just because it's a safe choice, it's bright and it does seem to work well with the countertop. You can always paint the walls a colour, hang art, put up shelves to display some nice kitchen things, place a couple of wooden chopping boards on the counter against a wall.. Under cabinet (LED) lighting can easily be installed afterwards. The difference in floors does matter, I think, especially if you tend to leave the door open a lot. So you'll have to make sure both floors work together or at least don't clash....See Morelouisep2012
