What species of wood was used here? How did you achieve such a light color on the upper portion of the wall?

Thanks Brad, that is cypress and part of our Sahara line. It is finished with a white wash.

Hi, I have just finished repainting my kitchen myself. Overall I am happy with the new look, but I think the final verdict is only possible after some time (to see if the paint hardens enough). I have used Ammonite Farrow and Ball which is very warm grey colour. It looks nice in dark corners as well. Had to apply 4 coats of paint after 3 coats of FB primer. So be aware of the quantities. I must say that the process of repainting was not an easy ride. I spent overall three weeks (full time weekends and doing some smaller works in the evenings). Preparation is the hardest part (sanding, sanding and sanding), while painting is also a vey delicate process). If you are not afraid of hard work do it yourself! Otherwise, a professional is always a good option. Check traditionalpainter.com website they have a number of good instructions on repainting the cabinets.

OK all, I have a website!! http://www.lucianastatues.com/ It's almost finished, I haven't started on the blog or added an 'About' page, as I'm not sure what to write yet. It went live a couple of days ago but then had some glitches, and the absent-minded geek (I have his approval to call him that) who made the site told me not to advertise it until he takes care of them. Everything is working now; I could say I have 2 websites, as he built another one for me initially that I didn't like that much. It was probably the wet dream of a webdesigner, with lots of features and pop-ups and hexagonal inserts (don't ask...!) but just too fancy for my needs. So I told him to keep it simple, sat down with him for a few hours and hurray!! - I think he's done a great job. This site is just straightforward and easy in my opinion, simple to use and with large photos that help with seeing the details. I would appreciate some feedback though, so please let me know what you think. I'm still not sure about prices, I mostly charge by how tall the figure is and how much I like it:)). Next week is gallery touring, I'm going to Birmingham tomorrow to a craft fair, but mostly to look and maybe buy supplies, not to sell http://www.thenec.co.uk/whatson/hobbycrafts# My main problem at the moment is that I ran out of stock! :)) I sold a few more things, but they were commissioned, so they don't appear on the site. Didn't have time to make a lot of new pieces, so some of the stuff that's there is mostly things I would've liked to keep or had on reserve, but now decided to sell them. I knew starting all this will leave me less time to play...... Plus my geek gave me a task list with stuff to do to promote the website, and I'm supposed to write that blog every couple of days..... Anyway, my gratitude again for your help and support. As I said, I'd appreciate some feedback on the site. Popular at the moment are the strips of floor to ceiling wood as a panel/headboard. sometimes the wall behind painted a dark colour and the sides of the wood stained darker to increase the shade effect…..looks natural and goes well with plants….and the terracotta you have in mind painted on the rest of the wall.…a paler chalky version of the round cushion in your last photo? i was wondering if you could do something with the bank of doors opposite the bed to reflect what you do behind the bed, perhaps painting the walls and door a similar shade and perhaps covering some doors in mirror?

Hi Amanda wow big room I’m guessing from the foliage and the air con it is not in UK? Are you renting or have you bought, just asking as you would have more choices if you own. Great to have lots of windows and light but they eat up all your wall space don’t they? Do you like having your bed under the air con? If you had a head board you could move it against the wall with the windows with blinds on then it would be facing as you walk in. You could then get the tv on a nice chest of drawers unit on either the left or right walls between the windows. Colour wise as you have a lot of green already I would suggest an earthy terracotta which if you were brave enough could be in a wash effect which would be more subtle, however if you want to bring in pinks and purples in the soft furnishings as previous suggestion then terracotta would clash. I would consider whatever colour you do the walls to take up over the ceiling as that will make it more cosy and blur the lines of walls and ceilings. Re wardrobes it depends how much storage you need if you need a lot then fitted would probably work best - you could use rattan blinds to drop down over openings if you got sick of looking at the clutter. I have seen lots of people replace solid doors with cane inserts so they look less imposing will post some pics for you
