@ Pookes - this is a common situation where the external corners are often forgotten. Have you gone back to your tiling supplier to see if the tiles that you bought have a ceramic/porcelain corner section available? if so, and depending on the dimensions, you may be able to give yourself the minimalist look that you are looking for. Unfortunately your first photograph, showing the aluminium trim, is typical of the covering up of a design detail that has been forgotten. This maybe your only option although there are colour alternatives available that might make it easier to live with.
