how do I make my kitchen cabinets look grey instead of blue?
Comments (8)Hi Patricia, I come across this problem a lot, I match the colour samples in the studio and they work perfectly. When we take them to site the lighting in the room totally changes the look of the colour pallets we chose. Lesson one for us, "always" put the colour samples in the room before agreeing them with the client. Lighting is the single most important factor with pastel colours. If its a north facing room colours will always look dull. Due to the position of the window the units under the window will always be in shadow which neutralises the blue tones and brings out the grey. Two ways of approaching this. 1 Re paint with a stronger blue to offset the neutralising effects of the lighting. 2 Change the lighting. Put an extension into the room and get a few different lights, LED warm white, Soft white, brilliant while etc. Look at the effects in the day and in the evening. When you find the light source that brings out the blue tones use that on all the lights in the room... With regards to colour on the walls, at the risk of being boring I always go white. When you put white up against a pastel colour the pastel shades really pop out. When you put another colour in it alters / distracts from the pastel. Hope that helps, Martin: www.angel-martin.com...See Morehow can I make this room more cosy?
Comments (9)I would find a more interesting, warmer and less stark paint and also paint the radiator in the same colour - whatever colour you choose, you can get an exact match paint suitable for radiators, mixed by someone like Valspar (they do it at B&Q) . I would then get a lovely rug to coordinate with the paint colour and make it more "homely". I'd also get a coloured/patterned/textured roman blind. I'd ditch the yellow stool and replace it with something less dominant and a lot more comfortable. I'd also be reluctant to introduce a bright yellow desk. Do you actually need to two work stations? The desk on the left in combination with that high stool looks extremely uncomfortable and difficult to work at, is it overly high?. Personally, I love the taupe desk, but I can see it is of little practical use in terms of size. I'd be tempted to get rid of it and have some sort of shelving or bookcase on that wall, where you can have photos and accessories, but also to provide somewhere to keep papers, files, post etc. I'm not sure there's room for the mirror as it stands, but if you feel you need to keep it, would it fit on the wall in between the desk on the left and the window wall? If you're keen on introducing that bright yellow into the room, why don't you add it with files/folders, cushions or vases etc? You could even choose it for seat upholstery or as accent colour in the blind or rug. Personally, I think it would be a mistake to have too much of such a bright colour, in a relatively small space....See Morelayout redesign to make more space in kitchen
Comments (7)Depends on the materials and where you live. But there shouldn't be structural changes so I think between £1k and £2k for the door-window switch. £300 for new laminate worktop and a few hundred for additional cabinetry, You might find you need to redo the floor once you move the sink. I'd budget £3,000, but it depends on you finding a builder at a reasonable rate....See MoreBathroom Design - How to make it more appealing?
Comments (16)If I had to have a shower over a bath, I would have a low down hand held one that could preclude the need for a glass screen. The wall that is built out from the end of the bath, could this extend across the entire width of the wall so that you can lose the loo cistern and create a shelf that goes behind the sink too? It could be the same height as the window sill. I think the all over tiling looks a bit oppressive. On the window wall, you could tile up the to false wall height but not above, thereby breaking it up. I love tiles, there are so many beautiful ones, just get the tones, colours and grout right and they can transform a boring space....See Morekadams1010
