Colour decisions for modern rustic feel

Hi! We are currently renovating our house and are stuck on a "base" colour to be used throughout. We feel like beige/ cream etc will suit our furniture more (which won't be changed) but think that it might be a bit outdated as greys and whites are more modern looking now. As the aim is to sell and presentation is the key do we go for what we think suits our furniture or the more modern and probably more popular option. To give you an idea we have a lot of timber? Our lounge is brown suede and our furniture is rustic. The other colours we hope to add throughout are blush pink and ice blue or mint green. A pic of our dining table is attached so you can see what I mean by rustic

If it is purely for resale, I would stick to a neutral palette. Find a few neutrals that work together. People can generally see past furniture but often people stretch themselves when buying a house so don't want to redecorate as soon as they move in to have decor matching their furniture.Have a look at Little Greene or Farrow and Ball for inspiration. You don't need to stick to just beige, stone is a good modern option for example and some greys would work with your furniture.

As it's for a resale, paint everything in Dulux Jasmin White. Farrow and Ball would be a waste.

We rent unfurnished, so always have our own furniture around us. I don't go in TOO much for the soft furnishings (rugs, cushions, curtains, throws), as they are cluttersome and really interefere with a low-maintenance life. Moreover, sadly, my posters, paintings and photographs have had to stay in storage for about five years, due to increasing fussiness by landlords/ -ladies about holes in the walls. HOWEVER, it is crucial to have ENOUGH of your own things around you, so that the web of YOUR things covers over a space which is, essentially, not yours. Minimalism has definite limits. Our last place had revolting dull mustard yellow walls, which definitely needed covering! Bookcases (with books!), a folding screen/ room divider, tension rods to create hanging rails, and one big rug (for the sitting room) come with us everywhere, like the interior of some sort of nomad's yurt! Seasonal and fresh decorations are another way to decorate a temporary home, and they leave only biodegradable waste, rather than broken MDF or shattered plastic! Leaf-skeletons on a string and rosehip-studded twigs (snap off the thorns!) for autumn (Fall). Holly, ivy and dried wildflowers for winter. Fresh wildflowers for spring and summer. Herbs in the kitchen.

It looks like a fairly large, light space so I would definitely go for the darker, bolder choice. I also agree with the majority that keeping the arch, but enlarging and squaring it off, might be better and leave you with more flexible spaces (it will also save you money!) If you get rid of the fireplace (which is pretty unispiring) I would make sure you still have some kind of feature there to add impact - console tables with mirrors over them work quite well. The beauty of the darker grey is that you can accessorise with pretty much any colour and it will look cool.

Thank you so much everyone for all the comments and ideas! I am definitely swaying towards tiles now or the opaque glass in same colour as wall. Very helpful to see other ideas too with some different style Splashbacks etc. Thanks for taking time to show a design on my photo that’s really helpful. I see what you mean about the shelves needing to be quite small on right hand side of hob. I was thinking of 1 or 2 small ones on that side and longer ones on other side. But yes other option is to have something more decorative on right hand side... but we already have a big brass/black antique style clock for the opposite wall which is a dark grey (see extra pic- but clock not up yet!). I’m with the keepers! I think you might end up devaluing your house if you took out all the original features such as the doors, latches etc. I think you need to experiment with some colours for the walls and look at replacing the carpet which is a bit of a cold grey colour. Also have you looked into the history of the house as I don’t think the leaded lights look like original arts and crafts style to me!
