Hallway using Farrow and Ball Wallpaper and Paint - Advice Please

My hallway has a corridor effect - with honey coloured parquet flooring (which I don't like - but feel it's madness to pull it up).
My idea is to paint and wallpaper (in Farrow and Ball) in one of two ways
1. Elephant's Breath Paint with Peony wallpaper
or
2. Dove Tale paint with Silvergate wallpaper
I'm thinking of using the wallpaper only on the wall going up the stairs - or do you think I should use it on the wall leading to the other rooms?
I'd also like to ask your opinion on whether to paint the staircase white - or should I be more adventurous and go black?

Comments (4)Hi. The room appears quite dark atm so I'd go for a warm neutral on the walls, perhaps try farrow and ball or little Greene. For the wallpaper Maybe a subtle pattern in a metallic to bounce some light or a grasscloth effect paper to add texture. I'd lighten the sofas up with throws and cushions in different textures and patterns. Do you prefer a neutral scheme or colour? Have you considered recovering your seat pads on the chairs to lighten them up and maybe add pattern? It's easy with a staple gun! A vase of faux flowers on the table would look great (I love the hydrangea from Oka!) unless of course you can afford real each week and a plant elsewhere. Agree re pendant light over dining table and lamps to cosy the space. Perhaps a bigger rug for the living area to zone the seating space and one for the reading area. Is it also possible to shorten the curtain pole on the main window? For accessories do look at chrome, glass etc as they will bounce light...See MoreHall & landing paint advice please
Comments (14)Agree with GD11 - a warm white or grey will work well all year. As you have a porch in front of the door that is limiting light coming in and especially in winter you will find some greens and blue very depressing. I would also ditch the stair gates. We had one for the first child and he kept playing with it, so we just taught him not to go near the stairs and he learned to bump, or more normally slide down the stairs. never bothered with a gate at all for my other kids. 9 years agoOh no, I would wait for a designers response! Panelling at dado height can give the illusion of width and add interest but I can't really work out how much wall space you actually have! I've just picked an image from panel master as it is a really long narrow corridor! It can work out dear though.I am a bit wary of wallpaper down stairs re wear and tear. Do you have any kids? Do you have any rooms leading off the hall and landing that are papered? I think the front door is opposite the wall with a chair? If so it might be nice to add paper there for some interest? You could do what I'm doing right now and decide to draw a chinoiserie style pattern on your hall wall with a view to paint it and then ruin your wall as you clearly can't draw!

9 years agoHi I've just used skimming stone and elephants breath on my kitchen walls with the lotus farrow and ball wall paper , the colours are amazing , I think your hall would look nice with the stair wall papered and paint the balustrades and hand rail in skimming stone so it blends in almost disappears so the focal point is the wall paper . Then paint the walls in the hall with elephants breath to add some depth and interest so it doesn't feel all the same , and I love your floor :-)
