Need help with my apartment!
Comments (5)Its an almost completely blank canvas for me - I have some antique walnut bedside tables and chest of drawers but everything else I will need to buy. Above this living room is a mezzanine level bedroom which I am toying with the idea of turning into a snug and using this living room as the bedroom to fully benefit from the height and light - maybe using a good quality sofa bed, blanket box (to hide bedding), my bedside tables as lamp stamps and a chest of drawers in the corner - thoughts? or anyone have experience of living upside down as it were?...See MoreNeed help with the layout of kitchen/living area
Comments (15)Ahahah! Nowhere near an artist... but I used to score good marks at technical drawings at school! Thank you so much for the floor plans! They are giving me good points to think about! Currently the other half of the island hides an under the counter fridge. However I would prefer not to have a power outlet there... I don't like the idea to drill a hole in the new floor :) Just in case I decide to get rid of the island in future. Also... I have bad news... today the heater engineer told me that the boiler can't be moved into the eaves storage: there isn't enough space. However he came up with a different idea: move it on to the small wall between the stairs and the sink. Ideally I would hide it behind a kitchen cabinet... but I don't plan to get a custom build kitchen... they are just too expensive. So... I can't have a bespoke cabinet. My idea then is to build a short wall there and hide the boiler behind it. If you look at my drawings, you'll see that the wall there is larger than in the original photos... Unfortunately it means that i won't be able to accomodate the refrigerated drawers that you suggested, sorry. I'd like to get rid of the island... unfortunately without it I won't have enough space for all the cabinets and appliances. BTW... I really like your plans! I need to work out how to implement your ideas taking into consideration some of the constrains of the space available....See MoreCreating a studio apartment
Comments (38)BTW, I have done some research on the table with the blackboard mentioned by stellahome and the dimensions are perfect. The box on the wall is 87 H x 24 D x 63 W. The table is 73 H x 50 W x 77 L. Also about the radiator, if you find a way to put the radiator somewhere else than below the window, the bed could go on the south wall and the television could go above the linen/storage cabinet. Your cabinet cannot be too high though. The television would be mounted on the south wall but could swivel to face the bed when in use. In Canada, there is a new invention. I think it is made in Canada. It might be good to investigate if you can get it where you live. It is an electric radiator that is about 15cm H x 15cm D x the length you want. This is very practical for small spaces because you can mount it high on the wall which means it does not use floor space. I don't know where you live so I have no idea if a heated floor would be enough to heat your studio entirely. I am not sure, how much renovations or changes you can do in your studio but as OnePlan mentioned, it would be nice if you could add windows on the South or North walls or both....See Moresingle parent with 2 children under 3 in small apartment needs help
Comments (13)Hi, I understand the pain of space limitation, but it can definitely be made to work with some clever use of storage. Do you have a floorplan you can share? There are sofas out there with storage too which might help store toys etc. in addition to Sonia's footstool suggestion. The key is to try to find furniture which can double up as storage, whilst also being ruthless about how much stuff you choose to keep. Beds are another great opportunity for additional storage....See MoreSam Hill
