Blank canvas! Ideas please!
Comments (19)I would leave the fireplace as is, it's a feature of the room. If the rooms are small I would paint up to the picture rail and leave above in white. Something like elephants breath by farrow and ball could work for downstairs. Invest in some statement lighting as it make a room and also a stylish sofa. Look for secondhand furniture, mirrors etc on ebay. Depending on your style, you can always makeover any furniture yourself. If the kitchen cupboards are paintable then i would do this. If you don't like the kitchen as it is now, I would make a feature of the back window wall as your eye will be drawn to this. The diy shops have some good and cheap wallpapers in at the moment. I recently did a quick "tart up" of my basement utility room. I love tin tiles but couldn't find them in the right size in the uk so I bought turner tile anaglypta wallpaper (about £10 a roll) and then painted it metallic silver which looks great ( I think!). If you're keen on using copper this might be a cheap idea. I would just focus on getting the basics done now and then accessorise as budget permits....See MoreHelp with designing blank canvas living room
Comments (101)Hi, it's coming along thanks! I was meaning to post updated pictures when all the furniture arrives next week. I'm not getting notifications either for some reason so I didn't see your post till now. There's still so much to do though - very slow progress. We still need a new TV, piano, and wall art for this room. There is a lot of wall space so not really sure what size, how many, or where to position the wall art. I don't want to overdo it, and I think I want to avoid toooo much purple!...See MoreLiving Room Blank Canvas
Comments (4)Hello Sarah-Marie Westgate, Just reading your dilemma, there are a lot of questions that go through my mind to ascertain some more points of view from you, but I spare you the inquisition. I can only speak from an art on wall viewpoint and making a few assumptions, I reckon you are probably wanting to keep the primary colour of the room largely the same. If that's the case, my first instinctive thought is an art piece I call a subtle contrast for a room like yours, like this one for example, which is called THE INNER WORKINGS: I have many pieces that are subtle and bold contrasts that would create focus and attention, as well as subtle and bold compliments too. There is also the matter of what subjects and genres you may have a particular preference to. Whatever you think about from here and make decisions on, I specialise in creating bespoke artwork specifically for a rooms decor and furnishings. May I suggest having a look at some of my BESPOKE DESIGNS to see what has been created for other rooms: http://www.houzz.co.uk/projects/1720017/bespoke-designs and if a bespoke piece is of interest to you, you can contact me through my houzz profile or through my website: http://thejonescollection.gallery All the best with whatever you decide to do....See MoreLayout for small-ish open plan lounge / dining room - blank canvas
Comments (6)I'd go for nothing in the bay except for maybe a low chest, the windows are very long and to close to the floor to stand anything in front of them, without obscuring them. Therefore, if you place a sofa on the long 3 m wall you can then put the t.v / hi/fi system on the shorter, hallway wall opposite, creating a focal point. Place the dining room table and chairs at the other end of the room nearer the kitchen. This leaves you plenty of space to move about. I'd have maybe side tables or a side table near to both ends or at least one end of the sofa to have a lamp for reading etc You could also opt for a standard lamp!...See MoreSarah McNally
