If you're buying new sofas I would probably go for grey so there's not so much contrast with the carpet (and easier to keep clean!). You could still opt for grey on the walls in a lighter shade than the sofa and bring the cream (and a little of the plum) back in with accessories.

You have two choices- either paint the surfaces with spotlights in white and everything else grey. Or paint everything grey. I vote all grey. The bathroom requires painting differently to other rooms in your house because it will be a humid environment. Buy a good interior primer that includes a biocide (to help discourage mould). Make sure all surfaces are clean then apply a mist coat ( 60% water and 40% primer). Then apply a 100% primer layer- if the finish then looks completely flat you can then paint with your chosen colour (otherwise another coat of primer)- this may well need two coats too. Don’t forget to leave sufficient time between coats for adequate drying. I know this all sounds like more work but do this well and you only have to do it once.
