What are you doing in your garden this month?
Comments (27)Weeducks, yes, Malaysia actually. I've worked in much of this region over the 28 years I've been out here. Emmerline, I am sat here at 7pm as I write this - it is 35 centigrade and extremely humid (because it has cooled down a bit since mid afternoon). I wanted some exercise yesterday and had to wait till after 9pm before it dropped below 30 centigrade - and then only just. Midnight still saw 26 and early morning isn't much better. It has become much hotter over my years here. Life in the city now is air conditioning in the house, car, shops and offices. It is like being a termite not going outside other than in a climate controlled environment like a car, taxi, bus or train. Mornings used to be cool, but no longer. It is always T-shirt and shorts weather here, only because you can't go to less than that! Gardening here is a chore. (I cut the grass yesterday morning) Go into the garden between 10am and 5pm and get burned by the sun. Before or after that time and get eaten by mosquitoes. I tend to look at the garden from inside the house....See MoreWhat practical feature/item do you secretly crave for your house?
Comments (98)Lights which automatically turn on when I enter a room (especially in the kitchen and in the hallway from the bedroom to the bathroom) and lights inside my wardrobes (especially inside the one in the bedroom: I often get up earlier than my hubby, and it may be still dark outside, and I don't want to wake him up while I'm looking for my stockings)....See MoreDo you keep pets in your garden?
Comments (7)I don't keep pets in my garden but this is Trev our toad who lives in one of the window recesses in our basement. We converted the basement last year and have tried moving him to the garden several times but he always returns straightaway. We put a dish of water in there some time ago and have just caught him taking a bath....See MoreHow do you attract birds in your garden ?
Comments (7)I can tell you what works for me. I feed sunflower hearts in the hanging feeders and there isn’t a bird who doesn’t love them! Mixed seed is no where near as popular. I also put sunflower hearts on my flat bird table along with sultanas, which the blackbirds love. I no longer feed on the floor due to naughty rats. I have a bird bath and change the water daily. I also find fat balls are popular, as are scraps of wholemeal or seeded bread and chopped apples. I have a huge shrub near the feeders which the birds love and it makes them feel secure. My feeders are only about 5 feet from my patio doors and it doesn’t bother the birds. In fact I can be sitting in the garden and the birds still come, but our house is quiet with no kiddies. Best place to buy sunflower seeds at a good price is either Home Bargains or Wilkinson’s. Sultanas (or any dried fruit) I get from Morrison’s Savers range. This is my feeding station....See MoreAngie
