thanks Popsie1191 it was a lucky find while trawling a reclamation yard. It was in an awful state and took a lot of careful restoration but we were really chuffed with the result :-)

Your views pls: we have a large flat screen TV positioned centrally on the chimney breast (not clear on the photo), however the fireplace is offset, not central to the chimney breast. We originally fitted the TV central to the fireplace but it didn't look right as the TV overlapped the right hand edge of the chimney breast. It just doesn't look right in either position. Would it be better in the left alcove (it just fits the width) or the right alcove (which is wider) above one of the bookcases? The other consideration is the TV leads, they cannot be chased into the old stone walls. The sockets are on the left alcove. Thoughts anyone?

Hi Matthew, Do you still need some advice? The fireplace on it's own isn't bad, however, It doesn't go very well with the décor of the space. I agree with the previous comments, I would get rid of the wallpaper, either paint over it or use wallpaper again, however using light colours, such as; light grey or white. This would definitely look better as it will allow the fireplace to stand out, unlike now, it's competing with the wallpaper too much. In terms of the Fireplace, I would advice to use either stones or bricks, using neutral colours. This will look great in your space. An idea is in the photo.

Hi, I agree with Sonia regarding painting your fireplace. I wouldn’t get rid of it because your house looks traditional, and if you were ever to move, buyers like features such as fireplaces! Regarding the TV and media unit - I would find a local joiner and have some nice alcove shelving made that incorporates a TV stand. I did this a few years ago and it was very cost efficient. (I think ours came in around £200 for shelves, including a couple of angled shelves for the TV). Have a simple search on google or Houzz for “alcove shelves” and you will find loads! My friend painted hers in F&B Bone and it looks amazing. I’m a huge fan of William Morris, the busy intricacy of his fabrics and wallpapers is just fab. I think Green Smoke will look gorgeous too as it has that period feel. My fireplace is white and it has aged to a more mellow off white, so I wonder if All White or Wimborne White might look good?
