Please help with kitchen unit colours!
Comments (34)Should I have a light over dining table? Hello Houzzers, Can you advise please? Our kitchen extension is nearing the end of our building work phase and I need to decide on final lighting positions. It is a very big space so we are having an island with obligatory 3 pendant lights over. We will also have a dining table in the garden room end of the build. The electrician has left wires for a pendant light to go over the table but needs the final position before ceiling is plastered. Now I'm thinking that having a light will limit where we can put the table, eg if we want to move it in the future and also, (as I've not even thought about table size or bought one yet) its difficult at the moment to give a definitive position for the light. The kitchen is about 3weeks away from being fitted. So should I ditch the idea of a light over dining table?? Thanks in advance for your help!...See MoreWhat colour to paint kitchen?
Comments (16)Beware of dark colours on a dark floor. We wanted a dark colour so chose a light floor - and it works, just. If I'm honest, I think it is a bit too dark, but it does look good and my wife loves it. It is F&B Mouse's Back. It also works because the kitchen is big and well lit - dark cabinets may make a galley kitchen feel a bit like a corridor i.e. oppressive. I quite like the light wood, but if painting, I'd go bright for your layout....See MoreWhat colour wall paint for kitchen with cream cabinets
Comments (5)Hi Joanne, Questions to ask yourself are Would you like the room to be : - brighter or darker - cosy or fresh - feel larger or smaller - feel warmer or cooler - feel cheery, neutral or moody Also which way is the room orientated north? What are the other colours that are in the rest of the house? If these colours are all cohesive the spaces will link well and the house will feel larger. Interior Designers can offer a colour consultation - this is brief example of some of the factors that should be considered but the full service is best in person as the designer can get the feel for the space and samples can be viewed in the correct light which makes all the difference. We are based in the Wirral and Cheshire, local designers can be found on Houzz. Many thanks, Ellen Interior Designer...See MoreCan I paint my kitchen walls the same colour as the kitchen cabinets
Comments (7)You are more than welcome Teresa, glad I can help. I can now completely understand why changing the panels would be a real hassle - it would essentially be taking the kitchen apart and reinstalling. As the panels are Wenge effect then painting will not be an issue at all. Just make sure you give them a good clean and wipe over with sugar soap before applying any primer/light sanding. If you are struggling to get a good colour match to the doors - it might be worth hunting down a company that specialises in paint colour matching. Explain to them that you are looking to paint end panels I'm assuming they are laminated/MFC and they should be able to guide you on what base would be best as well as the prep work involved to make sure the panels are as hardwearing as they can be. I think a pop of pink would be fabulous! That's the beauty of making the kitchen your own and adding colour with accessories - you can have what you love and if you change your mind years down the line you won't have to redo the whole kitchen. What sort of pink are you thinking? Do you have any artwork in the kitchen that has a small amount of pink that you could tie in? With the colour palette you have any kind of pink would work well in there, from a nice dusty rose, blush pink to a hot pink (if you are daring enough). If you need any help with sourcing or suppliers for splashbacks please let me now. Kind regards, Charlie Covey Kitchens www.coveykitchens.co.uk...See MoreDeborah Stevenson
