colour choices for walls & curtains to go with red fitted carpet?

Disabled friend (limited mobility so spends most of her life in one single room) has chosen a red fitted carpet for her bedroom-cum-living room; what colours will blend with this to give a cheerful yet calm effect please?

Cream or putty colours. what sort of red - bright or deep ?

Mixture, like a tweed effect of brightish with salmon-ish, some flecks of a slate blue and a very few of cream - sounds dreadful but is rather nice - better than it sounds anyway. Thanks for your suggestions, she likes the idea of a creamy colour for walls.

Have decided on a pale green by Albany called Seafoam. It is quite light so I can always go darker. Not really into matching bedding fabric to wallpaper but will enjoy picking up the accent colours to be found in the paper as a whole. I remembered today that I actually had a beautiful green on walls of my first studio flat over a decade ago - how could I forget my first love!! Thank you all v.much and yes will update with pics.

Hello Dub M, Well it also depends on what else colour wise you're choosing for your scheme.. Whether you want bold and dramatic or whether you want something lighter in feel... Using them sparingly with a lot of plain in between or perhaps as boarders can then lend themselves to accent rather than statement... All depends on what you want from them as they're versatile! For pale schemes.. Think of colours such as creams, wheat and pale sun hued creams with hints of yellow.. Light and earthy tones on the cream, wheat, canvas, hessian colours perhaps beige and pale mustards, or pale golden creams and burnt siena with hints of brown,ochres .. For bold consider dark almost purple blues and hints of mauve.. Also Charcoal and greys with black and brown hues... For a warm but dramatic look.. The colours are chalky and have depth... Include wood work and again wall covering is versatile in that it could be half height or whole height.. Put tiles and colours together to see what you like.. Paint onto squares of paper no less than A4 and place them where you might want to use them.. Look throughout the day to see how they react and interact with their space and the changing light.. From one colour you can begin to mix it to blend and become another.. In this way you can see colours interact with each other. Use versions of them by working with lighter and or darker varieties of the chosen colour.. Here's a doodle to show the colours blue and others I'm suggesting so you can see the blue is still quite dominant. I rather like blue and elements of yellows, old golds and creams.. Look at the tiles themselves too for inspiration... : ))

Light, neutral and no pattern would be my advice, don’t go with anything too dark or contrasting that will break the room into sections, keep it flowing so possibly something that compliments the wall colour.

The more neutral Roman blinds in a linen or other very natural weave is an excellent call. If you could get the fabric to match the curtains, that would also be worth considering - if you know where the cushions came from, try asking the supplier to help find out. While neutral/mocha curtains may work (check they don’t “fight” the carpet!), I personally would go either with something that picks up the cherry-ish red on the cushions - not necessarily as a solid, but possibly as an accent in a more neutral fabric. I myself would steer clear of the herringbones & stripes (sorry, Living House!) as the rest of the feel is more organic and not in any way angular. Pick patterns with more natural shapes - abstracted petals leaves - rather than geometrics.

Sounds lovely + all your answers in there. Salmon dis a good colour, or the mid/egg blue/cream colours will all work.
Deep baby pink + deep baby blue are very calming + relaxing colours + either will look good against red carpet.
