I'm guessing you are looking for something a little different take a look at this. Although I'm not a fan of the colours you could adapt those but I like the shape

I'm inclined to agree with Jonathan but if you do want to go with the chimney concept and want a bit more variation to the 'shape' of the wall then there are a few things you could do. We've got an actual chimney breast and have put occasional bench seating either side with hidden storage below, which is super useful for times of year when we have extra visitors and need a few extra seats for bottoms! (Excuse the empty holes in the middle- waiting for our log delivery!) If you thought carefully about the actual chimney breast higher up I guess it depends on what you want above it- a large mirror or picture could easily be put up on top concealing a cupboard door behind it for hidden storage. Alternatively you could have the 'sides' of the chimney breast with hidden doors (push close / push open) to storage, so long as you think carefully about what height your shelves are at and avoid the doors opening into them. I always think books look quite nice in fireplaces, especially if you paint the inside a bold colour as a backdrop to them. I'm sure there are lots of other options too! Hope it helps! Claire

Various options to consider in addition to those of bookworm. A mantle shelf (think chunky, but rounded, oak in a driftwood style - could work to help bring the stove area "forward" - alternatively you could work in shelving which has radiused ends which curve gently in towards the stive, keeping a focal point. My own preference, however, would be to frame out around the stove to give a false chimney breast, and possibly add a fireplace or mantle shelve, then add bespoke shelving/cupboards either side. If you size it carefully, you could use standard sized kitchen/furniture cupboards to keep costs down. The fake chimney breast need not be expensive - some cheap timber framing, a couple of sheets of plaster board and two skimming beads plus some paint. And with a little careful thought, you could build in some secret hidden storage as well!

Excellent idea there by @Jonathan. You'd have to move the radiator (or perhaps change it to a column and place in the corner?) but it'd be a nicer placement of the bed, better paths around the room and way more storage. Personally, I'd go one less wardrobe and have the vanity table and chair parallel to the bed with a large wall mirror and overhead shelves If you want a simpler option, option 1 looks the best solution.

Hi Dominic, I completely agree with you that having 4 x cabinets and shelves will look a bit rigid. It is also quite a lot of open shelving and as that wall will be a main feature of the room, you will need to think about what goes on all of the shelves and keeping it nicely dressed. It would be great to get a couple more photos of the room, to get an idea of proportion and what the room is used for. I’m an interior designer and have worked on a project with two chimney breasts in one room, which resulted in having four alcoves. I put two console tables on either side of one chimney breast. I had a large picture behind each one and a tall table lamp, this was to add some height to the alcove, so the wall didn’t look bare. For the next set of alcoves I added built in cabinets and shelves above (as you have suggested already). I made sure the height of the cabinet matched the console tables so they all worked together. I have attached some photos. Another option to look at would be to put at desk in an alcove with a nice chair and some shelves above. Alternatively, you could put two built in benches on each side of one of the chimney breasts and the shelves and cabinet on either side of the other. This would create more seating and joiner could make it so it has a lift up seat, if you need the extra storage.
