remove breakfast bar & create seating area?

Dont want to lose all the cupboards & got nowhere else to put the washing machine, so could put a built in bench in place of the bar & then only lose use of the right lower cupboards????

Hi HH, I think the "liberated" corner next to the window would look better with table and chairs. If you build a bar with stools you will live some space unused and the kitchen will become very long creating an energetic tunnel between the doors. There is many doors in your kitchen... It is not recommendable to work, cook or sleep in such a tunnel as in long term it can have negative influence on people. The table would close the kitchen space and stop this energy making the whole kitchen more cosy. It's still small space so please avoid black or dark furnitures as the "eat" a lot of natural light and make it look smaller. Don't forget to put some small plants around when you have everything done ;) /Marcin

Hi, Gillian, If you have the 300-400mm recommended above there is no reason not to have the seating area but yes, you would pretty much lose access to the drawer. You could replace the existing drawer/cupboard combination with just cupboards, if that is a possibility for you, that way you would get all the storage and could use it for items you don't need to get at very often. It's all a balance; how much you would gain by having the seating, vs losing the drawer (or having to re-do the drawer/cupboard combination).

I don't feel this room really fits a peninsula but obviously you'd like to sit with a view so putting sitting facing the window is a perfect solution. The sink doesn't need to be in front of the window as you hardly spend any time washing up these days, especially with a dishwasher. Move this to the left and continue the top over with leg space (perhaps 300 deep units for a sneaky bit of storage). Alternatively, could you have one door to the garden and do Carolina's idea over the other door? good luck Emily

I was going to do this 14 years ago when I had a new kitchen installed in the house I was currently in. I am glad I didn't. The legs would have got in the way of cleaning and using the worktop! It is a pity that the width of the work top wasn't made wider so it could have overlapped the cupboards allowing one to sit up to the worktop without the inconvenient top bit and the stools fitting neatly underneath.
