Size of Corian Upstand

Having a white Corian 20mm worktop fitted in my kitchen. Thinking of having an up-stand too. Fitters have suggest 100mm high, from pictures I have seen lower-up stands which seem's to look more clean & slick. Can any interior designers suggest the perfect height for an up-stand, without losing that clean contemporary look. Picture of kitchen attached!

Comments (8)Running the upstand behind the hob looks absolutely fine, seen it plenty of times and customers have always been happy, the only slight downside is large pans and woks can be up against the upstand as its thicker than your tiles but thats being really picky. Personnally i prefer this look then stopping the upstand, then stepping back for your splashback tiles and then stepping forward again and restarting the upstand and its easier to keep clean as well with no little corners for dirt to get trapped....See Morecorian vs quartz
Comments (8)It's a tough questions, corian doesn't stain and is repairable but does scratch easily, quartz can stain and can't be repaired but doesn't scratch anywhere near as easily, both aren't the best with heat, neither is granite, all shouldn't have extreme heat directly applied to them. Price wise, pure coloured corians are usually cheaper than pure coloured quartz, but then patterned corians are usually more expensive than patterned quartz/granite. Both have pros and cons and I think it ultimately comes down to how you use the kitchen and what style you want. Comments (5)Oh, paint it. Personally I’d paint it a dark grey similar to the worktop so that the line between the two disappears, if that makes sense. It will tone well with the floor and make a lovely backdrop to simple accessories. You might need a fair number of coats, but I have had something very similar in two houses now—including behind the hob—and it has proved very resilient and easy to clean. Also, the wood provides a nice surface for sticking stuff to as the seasons change. I put tiny little Christmas trees (card decorations, really) on the border and this time of year.
