POLL: What's Britain's best building?
Comments (73)These are all great buildings, but with the exception of the Shard, are all very traditional. Personally, I would like to see more contemporary examples: the Lloyds Building; Sainsburys in Camden, or my personal favourite, the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts at the UEA outside Norwich. A very peaceful, calm and relaxing space....See MoreTop tips when selling your property?
Comments (41)Hello @The Picture House. Thank you! Just to touch on your point, I don't agree at all really. I think most people want to envision the property with themselves living in it, how they want to see the home. When I talked about what I look for, it was from a personal viewpoint. I don't need to see anything added to see if the place is worth something. (Not financial) I'm talking structural and aesthetics. The "bones" of the place, if you like. Also potential has nothing to do with clean, tidy, or adding a few objects, just reading your pointers. Potential isn't styling, it has to do with architectural details and the capacity for renovation or restructuring. If that is what is sought. For that you need an eye for these details and there are a lot of people who are very clued up and interested in this area. Talking from experience that is. I think the problem with selling, is knowing your market and who you're selling to. Knowing your property and how to market it (at the time) to its fullest potential. Marketing your property for who you want to sell it to. So whoever it is can see what they can add- if at all! However, what a client is looking for from their purchase will largely dictate the type of property they seek. Interestingly some "interior designed" property renovated for sale are some of the worst examples of boring, bland and unimaginative. I would argue the use of the term "Interior designed" It comes down to style and taste which is diverse and individual. Displaying the architectural elements to their fullest. In short, it takes.. Charisma! AJ...See MoreWhat were your best and worst decisions when building or renovating?
Comments (2)Tee hee about the loo seats ! Best decisions - going to view the derelict property that was found way back in an old box at the estate agents and then putting in a ridiculously low offer thinking it was a start point to negotiate upward - but they actually accepted it !! Yay !! Worst decision moving in with a toddler while renovating ! No way I'd ever do that again!!! On the design front - as I'm in the biz I guess that helped with the flow of the place - so recommend if you do bring a designer (or concept planner like us) onboard, ask them for input throughout ! It can make for a much more cohesive home !...See MoreIn need of interiors tricks for small new build!
Comments (6)A small thought...when purchasing your sofa, ask if the seat cushion can be made as one single piece. People are simply happier sharing when no one is sitting on the crack. (tee hee) I also prefer tightback sofas in small spaces and lower arms. Less bulk and less barrier' fools the eye. Congratulations on your new digs!Ps-always,always,always measure before purchasing anything. Yes,very basic advice but so often forgotten ...as endless threads here show....See MoreSarah McNally
