Window choice for contemporary new build
Comments (4)Hi Adrian, Looks like a lovely project. Personally I think an Anthracite grey aluminium frames would look very sleek and modern with your design. Here are some examples we have installed for our clients; hope this helps... we are also on instagram @croydonwindows which shows a lot of are work unto date. This one above is a new build to be completed next year which we are quote for our client we work with on a regular basis....See MoreWhat were your best and worst decisions when building or renovating?
Comments (2)Tee hee about the loo seats ! Best decisions - going to view the derelict property that was found way back in an old box at the estate agents and then putting in a ridiculously low offer thinking it was a start point to negotiate upward - but they actually accepted it !! Yay !! Worst decision moving in with a toddler while renovating ! No way I'd ever do that again!!! On the design front - as I'm in the biz I guess that helped with the flow of the place - so recommend if you do bring a designer (or concept planner like us) onboard, ask them for input throughout ! It can make for a much more cohesive home !...See MoreNew build living/dining interior ideas to add character!
Comments (18)Hi Amy, I agree with many of the points above, I can see the wall behind the sofa in a dark colour to zone the seating area. I would suggest maybe a funky roman blind at the kitchen window with matching cushions on the sofa. The unit next to the table looks a bit low for the room, could you go for something higher, maybe another sideboard to match the one under the tv unit this will also create more storage and create more balance in the room. I would go for a simple rustic wooden table with a mix of modern chairs to bring some more natural finishes into the room. As above a large rug which goes under the front legs of the sofa and up to the tv unit would help cosy up the seating area and zone the space. As for bifold window finishings, you do not really have room to have pull back curtains at the sides so I think it has to be simple roller blinds, you can get sheer ones that will prevent the daytime glare, are you actually overlooked or would they be adequate at night?...See MoreNew property design extension and internal layout
Comments (7)Agree with Tamp about the sloping roof/round window being more aesthetically pleasing than the mock up. Also re: the render. I think it's a lovely looking house and it will make it very generic. I'd so keep the windows white as well to retain its period charm. By saving money here (I'd imagine realigning the roof would cos a fortune) I would knock down the sunroom and take down the dividing walls to the rooms across the back of the house, then having a lovely open plan kitchen, dining, lounging area open to the garden with bifolds or similar. I think I'd even knock the wall down from the hall so as you enter so you can see right through to the back of the house. You'd still have a separate lounge at the front and space, I'm sure, for a separate utility. Rather than a porch (or maybe as well as?) I'd consider converting the garage for a playroom/office or similar because it looks rather small for a modern car. Sorry I'm no good at mocking up plans and don't know whether all that structural internal work is a lottery winning budget but I'd def spend my money downstairs initially as its where you spend most of your waking hours. Good luck, fabulous potential....See MoreSarah McNally
