Please critique my kitchen design
Comments (21)Hmmm, pesky walls! Bearing all that in mind you're probably quite close to what would work best for you. I would suggest though that the tall units stay on the left - if they're on the right you're cutting out a lot of light from your primary natural light source. Also, try not to have your dishwasher tucked right into a corner as that just makes it difficult to work around - sometimes you can crash into handles when opening and closing.. I've tweaked your plan a little which I hope gets you a bit closer to your final solution: good luck!...See Moreplease critique my lighting plan for open plan area...
Comments (9)Personally I think you have too many spotlights and I think the lights planned for the beams should be on the same switch. I would have six ceiling spots around the kitchen and then have directional spotlights on the beams and angle them up so the light reflects off the ceiling. I would then have three pendants over the island as I think clusters of three have more impact than just two. I would have a big pendant over the dining table and I would move the island and table to make this possible. As well as under cabinet lights I would have plinth level lights. Separately I think if you are sat on the sofa or at the desk an overhead light is uncomfortable and I would have an anglepoise on the desk instead. So you need four light switches and I would have all except your under cabinet lights on a dimmer....See MoreCritique my living room!
Comments (48)I would move the bookshelf out altogether or paint it white /cream (same as the walls) and put it where the TV is now. I would put in a big rug reaching under the sofas and a glass coffee table so that it does not look cramped. In the first photo, the room looked long and narrow and my first thought was to put the sofas at right angles to each other to make the room look wider or even to get less bulky sofas (although they look deliciously comfy). Also I couldn't see how the people on the left hand sofa watch the TV which is almost behind them. In the second photo the room looks wider, so hard to tell. I would get rid of the wastepaper basket to the right of the fireplace and instead of having many small things on the walls, have one big thing over the fireplace. Whilst I really don't like TVs on show, maybe you could get one like a Samsung frame your TV over the fireplace which is a TV and a digital piece of art or photo when it is off. That would clear the corner for a side table. Hope that helps. Post photos of the final thing....See MoreCritique of plans please!
Comments (9)Thanks all, see attached plan with measurements. The back sitting room is dark so I thought this could be a snug/tv room, dining table in new extension. I think because we already have the kitchen and downstairs toilet in the galley area( which is being extended outwards by 1 mtr or so) I have left it there. The rear sitting room has a lovely high ceiling and ceiling rose, I can't imagine losing half of it to a utility, although Jonathan maybe it's an idea to move the kitchen. The house isn't huge so it would be same distance to family bathroom at top of stairs to the downstairs toilet. I did think of putting it next to the understairs but husband doesn't like the idea of toilet in the middle of the house and said drainage could be an issue. Debating whether to put an island in?...See Morespecial morning
