How would you design this bedroom? I want it calm, cosy & bright :)
Comments (36)Gone through my album of our very own decorating therapy journey and found these. I hope you can see the roller black-out in the first photo, it's tucked inside the recess of the window. The Duette is a peachy colour which looks a lot lighter colour in the north-facing sun. The one in the five panel window is the room below, it does not have the roller blind but the curtains are black out. They are not as efficient in blocking out light as the roller in recess though. the curtains are from Hamilton McBride, only reason i got them were because not many wide (350cm) curtains are cheaply available on Amazon... If your room is not too cold, you can also consider wooden venetian, mine is in white colour as you can see from the 'blue room' (it's F&B's new Vardo btw), which is on the ground floor of the north facing side. 247 does oak colour too. Many neighbours asked us where we got those from!! They look great at a good price - those two windows cost me just under a £100 - but they are not the most energy efficient. They are okay blocking out light but if you have it in the south-facing room, it might not be quite enough. Do go to 247blinds and request some free samples, it's worth a try. Hope this helps! ;)...See MoreAwkward bedroom layout dilemma!
Comments (5)Budget permitting, matching the curtains and bed spread and adding a pair of matching and/or coordinated pillow shams along with a coordinating solid color bed skirt could make the room more formal/decorated. Something interesting above the headboard, preferably something that reflects your family's interest -- art or something on shelving, preferably modern artsy shelving -- or even a pair of swing arm wall lamps above the headboard could be all the wall decoration you need. Choose something that would add your favorite colors to the room but, unless and until you find something you truly like, leave the walls blank. Pressed metal wall art might be something to consider. http://ep.yimg.com/ay/newportantiques4-shop/mountain-scene-burnished-metal-wall-art-10.gif http://www.interiortaste.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/abstract-metal-wall-art.jpg You likely need more drawers for storage. Instead of bedside tables, consider a pair of wider cabinets or dressers with drawers that can serve the same purpose. You might also consider a pair of his/her file cabinets for bedside tables -- everyone has documents to file away or they could just be used for clothes. I like the second one on this page. http://office-turn.com/solid-wood-four-drawer-file-cabinets/ http://office-turn.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/Modern-Shaker-Solid-Wood-4-Drawers-Lateral-File-Cabinet.jpg You don't mention how high or wide the radiator is. It may be you cannot put anything above one that provides heat but see if you could add a corner cabinet or see if the white chest of drawers could fit beside the radiator or would that impede walking around the bed. Alternately, across from the bed you might consider adding shallow shelving to the wall above the radiator and/or beside it -- perhaps something with a drop down shelf/desk. http://www.eastsidehomelink.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/11/Wall-Mounted-Desks-Fold-down-Desk-with-Drawers.jpg...See MorePlease can anyone help with a Design Plan for our Bedroom?
Comments (12)Hi Claire, Do the doors actually open inwards into the room? How about considering place the bed in the center of the room facing the doors? You would disguise the back of the bed with a thin console table which have some dressing style storage (jewelry etc) and can hold some tall flowers and candles to set the mood on entering. There's lots of ways you can add the luxury feel you are looking but this would create real impact and make the bed the real feature of the space. If budget allows I would hang lights from the ceiling ad beside lights and layer up on dressing for an even more luxurious feel. I have attached one of my clients bedroom design (single room re-design package) to show you the hanging lighting idea - if this isn't possible then a well placed small chandelier style light would have a great effect on the space. I hope this helps and I look forward to seeing the finished room - it will look stunning I am sure! all the best, Gina...See Morecreating a bedroom using an Internal wall
Comments (9)Hi everyone. Thanks for your comments. I cannot afford a loft conversion and the roof is a hip end which would require turning it into a gable end and needing a dormer but I may be able to afford to build on top of the kitchen extension. The room would be very small though. The creation of the aforementioned corridor gives me an extra wall that I can put furniture against as I have downsized from a 5 bed to 2.5 bed. It won't be a dark room as it has double french doors and there is another window space which is currently a double doorway leading into the kitchen. I prefer the living room at the front of the house. The light is better and there is a nicer fieplace and it is cosy. If I was going to sell, the new bedroom would be marketed as a dining room....See Morealant1000
