I think this kitchen looks so elegant. Please can you confirm the material and colour of the work surface?

Hello, thank you for your question. The worktop on the central island is Rustic Oak and the worktop on the cabinets around the edge of the room is 'Lagoon' Silestone. Hope this helps! Zoe // deVOL Kitchens

It is easier and more cost affective to produce a board that's shorter to allow ventilation than to produce a board the correct size - then re cut a circular hole - then buy and fit a vent ( that may fall out at some point). Crown have been going for years and do so because they supply a great product at the right price ... To change this one thing would increase overheads and make them a more expensive product . If you really dislike the look - you could perhaps add an L shape strip that's fixed to underside of worktop and sits forward of the gap - so air can still flow - but you don't see the gap from the front, into each cupboard. i think that's one way you will keep the airflow, but avoid seeing the view behind the cabinets that you dislike. Hi. Have you thought about repainting the surface? You could also try getting someone to put a micro concrete surface on there which can be done in a number of colours. Alternatively, find someone experienced to put a new 'veneer' on there. Good luck.

I'm looking at getting a Quartz brand CQ Maderia which is busier than anything I've used before so just a bit scared I'll look at the finished product and think What have I done! On the other hand really tempted to risk it.

We are inundated with solid surface manufacturers reps bringing in samples of sold porcelain work surfaces. The newer, harder, but generally thinner solid work surfaces on the market. These have been born from external wall cladding which is being adapted for work surfaces, flooring, and back panels. Available mostly in 12mm thicknesses. While these seem a great idea, most are a printed on finish unlike a quartz, so the pattern will not follow through the thickness of the material. Therefore your nice veiny patter will be lost on the edges and in the drainer grooves. Also the cutting process takes longer so generally they will cost more than a quartz. Let’s see if they take off.
