what style to do front of house

Hi

I am doing a house extension and can't decide how to do the front.

either all render with grey windows.

brick the porch up and bit above garage and render the middle.

Or render and stone affect cladding.

any ideas appreciated

Not sure on stone effect cladding - can look a little 80's ... Unless you have a more subtle/ natural one in mind !
Have you an elevation of the extension you could post ?

Thank you sort our stuff, I think that is why I was having difficulties in deciding what to have as the inside is a complete blank canvas. I think I have settled on the attached as the front door. Undecided on black or blue. I really like some of the modern ones but worried they would look too modern for the house. I will have a glass panel above the door and to its left. Also attached the internal doors I am considering. Thanks again for your response

Trying to create a bed that looks good in winter and flowers in summer needs careful planting. Aspect is crucial - sun lovers will hate shade and shade lovers will frazzle in the sun. I think a few small evergreens such as Hebe or Euonymus would be a start. They are short evergreens and the Hebe has white or purple flowers in the summer. They come in various leaf tones. A row of lavender always looks good, but they need a sunny border, and they do look a bit dead in winter. You can also plant groups of bulbs such as miniature daffodils and grape hyacinths ( ideal time to plant is now) which will give you lovely yellow and blue colour in the spring. Then I would fill in with short summer flowering perennials such as Geraniums, Geums and Erigeron - these do die down in the winter, but regrow in late spring. Dig the soil over and add a good helping of compost which will help them grow and water regularly until they are established. Don’t forget your local nursery or garden centre staff will also help you choose plants if you are unsure! The plants below are Hebe, Euonymus and Mahonia, all are evergreen.

Attached houses that are substantially different from their neighbours are worth less and devalue the whole street so you shouldn’t change the window colour. As far as replacing windows I think the money could be better spent replacing the things that are not so good- in my opinion the wire fence, the gate path and side wall could all be improved. Personally I would rather see a wide path to the front door- assuming the side path is not going to another property I would rather see just one path and a wider one would be grander. I would add a low fence to the garden side wall and then replace the wire fence with the same wood. Personally I would put some trellis on the house wall to the left of the front door to decorate an otherwise plain wall. I like to see grass in a front garden but perhaps some boarders would be nice too.

Other than that it is a pretty frontage! The only other thing I would do is perhaps pace the driveway and keep the hedge high for privacy. Perhaps consider a climbing plant on the front. Honeysuckle might work for the North facing wall. I think a lighter cream paint might be better than the yellow that is there already.

it looks like you have red brick on both neighbours. I would take your inspiration from the rest of the street keep the materials faithful to the original houses but find a crisper way of doing it.....for instance:

pebble dash on other houses might be interpreted as smooth render on your house.

deep 1930s bays on other houses might be interpreted by a similarly deep window on your house (but perhaps in the grey shown on the picture above).

if other houses have a wood shingle/tile on the front elevation perhaps instead of stone cladding you could mirror this but in a cleaner way with wide board cladding?
