Library/Playroom???

Hi again everyone as I previously mentioned we are moving house and I have this vision of a child friendly house by day and then an adult friendly toyless clutter free calming house by night lol I have this room downstairs and I guess it's meant to be a study but I'm thinking of a livery/playroom it's a decent size actually so was going to do all while my partner has books galore and along with my daughters toys they are taking over our current house. So maybe all white bookshelves on one wall and maybe storage cubes for toys under the window and a white couch and white coffee table but as it's going to be a playroom I'd like to brighten with some colour but I'm not big on bold colours so was just trying to get some ideas of what you all would do. If you hate the white idea then I'm open to suggestions. The house is a barn conversion but it's very modern inside although does have the original beams so could get away with a modern or classic style. I'll add some pics of what I was sort of liking. Also with it being a playroom I don't want to spend a lot as no doubt things will need replaced as accidents happen.

Hi. Do you have a pic of the room to get an idea of the size and the style/colour of flooring? I must admit I wouldn't go with a white sofa for a playroom unless you cover it with a throw!

I haven't moved yet so don't have a photo it the room is pretty basic though it has walnut Mexicana door white stirrings and architraves a window with window seat on the opposite wall to the door and a kind of creamy white tile effect flooring going on. I was slightly nervous of the white sofa and I have seen a leather one but it looks so cheap so I defiantly do want fabric. Any colour suggestions?

As always some fab points. I have considered price but the cost of paper was far less than having every wall skimmed but to be honest paper was more feasible for the time frame as there is no chain we can complete quickly. The 3 living rooms come off the hall and the bottom one is straight ahead of the front door which will be the dining room so I was thinking wallnut floor in hall and dining room but I'd like to have carpet in the other 2 reception rooms which will be library and sitting room as I have wood floors now in my sitting room and as much as I love the way it looks I feel like I'm forever cleaning it. It seams silly to place pet the hall though especially with children's muddy feet. There is no cornices in any of the upstairs rooms so I think brick effect paper will work well in the master. I'm stil not sure wetha to do all walls or just feature wall. We have wallnut furniture which I love so I think it will be a fab room. My daughters room I'm most excited bout it's just trying to decide how much of which colour more Grey or more pink or equal both I'm leaning more towards more grey because it will be easy to change the pink as she ages. My step son is difficult as he had probably had a different room every year in our house as he's aged he's gone from toy story to batman to Barcelona fc. So now I'm saying no to themed rooms. I was thinking maybe a mural on the wall behind the bed maybe black and white New York sky line or something and keep everything else very simple black and white??? The floor boards aren't in great condition and I know I probably stand alone when I say this but I don't actually like the look of original floor boards unless they are perfect. I agree with the decor flowing through the house and aside from the kids rooms it will all be pretty neutral. The dining room leads out into a beautiful garden so I was toying with trying to bring the outside in with some nature tones I'm just not sure how to go about it? Any suggestions for a dining table colour as it will sit on wallnut floor or am I just being picky and it doesn't really matter, just in my head an oak table on wallnut floor doesn't look great. Wish I'd taken pictures so I could show before and after I'll have to remember to when we move

As no-one stays anymore, I swapped my lounge with my spare room (flat). I now have a lovely square lounge just for TV and chats etc. My spare bed is in my new 'craft room' just in case but it is covered with paper, clay, frames, paint and records. I paint and listen to old rock and metal that I can shout along to!!!

How would you use this space for a utility / pantry

Beth. First thoughts would be to use the study as a Utility as there must be plumbing close by in the W.C Secondly, that is a beautiful big spacious room. Do you really want to cut it up for a walk in pantry? We renovated our house a few years ago and got rid of the walk in pantry so as to have a larger kitchen. It was a constant drag when cooking to have to go in there and find things. I honestly prefer tall order units with drawers for jars, tins, rice, pasta etc as they are so much easier to store and access. I want all my herbs and spices and oils right next to me when I am cooking not in a different room. Getting rid of the pantry was a blessing for us. I think you could extend the units on both walls up to where the windows are and then have a much larger island orientated in the other direction. Can you ever have too much workspace in a kitchen? @OnePlan, thanks, that'd be great! I've tried calling a few times today, but you were busy so I'll try again tomorrow if that's ok. @Wumi, thanks for your suggestions. I had originally wanted to put the ensuite on the left of the master like you suggested, but we have concrete foundations and that's too far from the existing plumbing. @rinked, sun tunnels are a great idea. Are they noisy in the rain? I agree that the utility would be better on an outside wall, but we're prioritising a second sitting room. We live in the city and we're not really "outdoorsy" people. Besides, we have a porch which will have a wardrobe/shoe cupboard built in, plus some additional storage in the hallway.

If you're sticking with that sofa then an option is to go for the navy sofa. This may be too bold for you but...I'd have the kallax units all along one wall so you may need 2 of the taller units. Perhaps put some storage on the bottom shelf for craft bits etc. I'd paint that wall in dark navy and the remaining 3 white (similar to colour by Benjamin Moore). I'd go for white curtains with either a navy trim or border. If you can sew buy really cheap white ones and add the navy. You could give it a very slight modern coastal feel. These cushions are by Barbara coupe but are too dear. I'd look for some with a red trim or pattern. I'd add a navy and white striped rug and a modern pendant light. Finally maybe a couple of fun coastal cushions picking up a little of the red on the window seat. If that's too themed just normal cushions picking up blue, white and red and maybe a geometric rug

Glad you liked it. Is this sofa cream or white? It all really depends on how good your daughter is! It looks like a ncie comfy sofa. Is this an ikea one with replaceable covers?

Yea it is. She's pretty good I obviously won't allow food or paint in there but that's just a general rule I have anyway

That's good. If you were to go for the navy scheme though I would probably balance it with the navy sofa unless you added navy cushions to this one. You could always get a pvc type tablecloth for the coffee table so she could do some craft work if she's into that kind of thing. Or could come up with another option around a grey sofa? It really depends whether you want the room more play or library orientated

I think I'll stick with a white sofa so I can change the colour of the accessories. Yea she is into crafty things but I tend to do it in the kitchen so this room will b just for toys
