Comments (14)I am a tiler so its in my interest to persuade people to fit more tiles but I agree with the other people who are questioning why you want to do this. You can transform the room with wall paper as Kerosis suggests and if you tire of that in a few years it is easy to remedy. I always point out to people that tiles are put on the wall as a practical durable easy to clean surface and therefore it is often not necessary to put them everywhere. If you do decide to fit tiles then you should remove the paint on the walls 1st as that was only ever designed to hold itself on the walls and it doesn't matter how brilliantly your adhesive hangs onto that paint if the extra load causes the paint bond to fail then your tiles will no longer be bonded to the wall (no such problem with lightweight wallpaper :-) Terry the tiler...See MoreHow can I improve my london Victorian hallway?
Comments (3)I like the colour combo, you could paint the spindles in C Grey as well if you wanted a bit more drama. How about adding a different coloured carpet? Olive green looks fantastic with C Grey. And perhaps a Hemnes shoe cabinet in the dark colour for storage? And a large mirror in a bronze finish would work well with your lovely lanterns....See Morewhich kitchen wall tiles shall I use
Comments (9)I love the tile tiles (in fact it is the thing I like most about the kitchen) but I think that with black granite it may be a little dark especially with a pale cabinet. Could you have a pale worktop? Given your cabinet and worktop choices I would think a metro tile would be a good choice. Given you are after a modern look I wonder if this is the best cabinet and worktop to choose plus there are some design tweaks that could be made. In my opinion the fridge looks odd flanked by cabinets. Integrated fridges looks more modern but if you are set on the American style fridge consider having larder units and the fridge doesn't have to be completely central. I think it is not practical to have glass cabinets both sides of the hob (because of cooking steam). It would be good to have smaller wall cabinets both sides here so the extractor is not crowded. Lastly this seems to be an extended kitchen but its likely it has no more units than the original pre extension. Would a design with an island be better? If you did have an island you would have more room to have a few things that would make this design more modern such as two built under ovens rather than one small double, you could have a wider hob and extractor, an integrated microwave so that the worktop is not cluttered...See Morehow shall I update this hallway and upstairs corridor?
Comments (24)Hi Juby, I think this space could be something special for you. I understand the problem as we live in a Victorian terraced house and space and light are always an issue. I fee your pain but think i can help. In terms of the walls, If you want something different, you can colour block the wall opposite the radiator. Potentially the bottom half sage or navy and the top half a fresh and contemporary white like pretty pale from valspar . On this wall, a large landscape mirror will add brightness to space. The remainder of the space can be painted in the lighter 'pretty pale' colour. The arch detail is stunning! You could really feature this by using the wall colour to highlight the details. We have exactly the same problem with our coats. I am obsessed with shoes and coats! If you were to thin these out, this would make a huge difference. If you use individual hooks, you can space the coats out to thin the density. You have a long wall so have the space. A big part to add would be a second light at the bottom of the stairs. The light is so bright but is doing nothing for the rest of the hallway or stairs. Also, try a neon light. Gives off bright light in a small way but can add detail and light. Have you thought about a shelf over the radiator for your keys and wallet? Nice and simple. Going up the stairs, a gallery is a great idea. Bold prints will add detail and colour. Think about painting a square of the downstairs feature colour to bring continuity to the design all the way up to the landing and to add detail to the light landing. Please feel free to get in touch if you would like me to create a 2D and 3D design for you to bring this to life for you. Either way, i am confident you can really create a dream entrance!
