Kitchen peninsula

Hi again all,

I've not seen many kitchen runs in a t-shape. What do you think of this shape? I'm not thinking of an island right now as I think it will encroach too much on the living area but I want to achieve more work surface than a straight run would give. I would also have cupboards above. The ceiling is 360cm high so lots of space. Look forward to your thoughts

Hi. I'm not a pro but thoughts anyway. I'm not sure this layout would be practical. You don't really have a working triangle and once your hob is on the peninsular you would be left with very little prep area and walking around the peninsular may be impractical. Is the living area also to include a dining space? What is the trianglular area beyond the store? What is the room to the left of the kitchen? How much seating do you need etc? Do you have a plan of the whole house? I personally would have a narrow island in front of the units, you would only lose 2-3 ft. Or you could possibly have an L shaped (once known what the store area is or the room to the left) with a table in the kitchen space. As I said though I'm not a pro so just my thoughts

I think you're not achieving a lot of extra space here - surely the space at the top of the T is just dead space. It's not easily accessible. And you couldn't easily use the space beneath it for storage. The cupboards above it would be tricky to reach too. Would you consider the oven being below the hob, so that you free up counter space between the hob and sink? A double oven with large hob over it is 90cm which would still give you plenty of counter space in a straight run. Another way to achieve more counter space would be to use a freestanding fridge - possibly on the other side of the store - instead of an integrated one.

Hi Alecia. You could buy the latest in string lighting - White Lightbulbs! They're for in and outdoors and in multicoloured bulbs too. If you bought 3 or 4 you'd have a similar look for a fraction of the price. 'MY-NEWLIFE' on ebay UK has some, and for about £100 you can get 100 on a string from the US. Good Luck.

Hi there - practically I would recommend the dining table nearest to the kitchen, but also it is worthwhile taking a few moments to think about your lifestyle - if you entertain a lot then its the most practical - guests can sit at the table whilst you cook/chat etc. similarly if you have kids they can do their homework and feel part of the family. Do you want to read on the sofa and look out at the garden or is the only time you are on the sofa to watch tv?.....We have a knocked through kitchen diner - the kids ended up doing all their homework at the breakfast bar, which we never envisaged! So actually living in the space can make you change your mind. But also the way we have arranged the space has changed as the kids have grown up and their/our interests have changed - so nothing need be set in stone, perhaps buy tables/sofas therefore that can fit in either space, can be moved for different occasions, gatherings etc.

Ok, so if you’re wanting all 3 I’d start 17.5cm from the wall and have them equidistant or have the 2 where you have them. I wasn’t very good at converting inches to cm (!) but if you had 3 along the peninsula part, they’d only be 23cm apart which feels too close unless they’re glass or something so don’t visually fill the space. my preference is just for the 2 over the peninsula. I’m assuming you have downlights to light up other prep areas btw

Hello,

I think a T shape Kitchen can be amazing as it is something different and a bit unusual. With a great design everything it can be achieved and you can make your space enjoyable to your standards.

An Island would give dimension to your Kitchen and remember that there are multiple styles you can pick and combine.

If you wouldn't like that cause you believe it will take your space, than why not have a 'living' area or a Bar with some chairs?
