POLL: Pick your favourite staircase!
Comments (61)The floating staircases are called "cantilever" staircases, they generally require a structural wall because they are steel plates bolted to the wall and clad in whichever timber you like and most popular balustrade would be glass, so they will not suit all house types, the split level staircase, with the landings are easier to produce and can fit in most house types and are still very contemporary, I am also a fan or the curved staircases because I understand the work involved but i would suggest the curved staircase would be more suited to a traditional house type....See MoreDebate on the Staircase: DIY job or In style when house was built
Comments (12)The addition at the turn of the stairs could also have been added to allow a bookcase or similar item to be placed at the top of the stairs as it creates a flat area of flooring with the top step. Not very safe but you never know what previous occupiers thought looked good! Please can you take the carpet off and tell us all what you find - I am also intrigued! Is the meter cupboard accessible from the hall or is it inside the area under the stairs - I can’t see how it fits in with the items around it. Has a doorway in the lower hall been blocked off? It seems strange that there is a corridor parallel with the stairs in the lower hall that leads to no where. This makes this area ideal development - could you open up the area under the stairs to make this area larger?...See MoreGo on then what's your latest impulse buy for your home?

Comments (8)Real or engineered wood would be my first choice in a herringbone style but of course LVT is a much more budget friendly option. Underfloor heating is not easy to fit retrospectively and a lot of upheaval. If your radiators work I would keep them and work around them. I think your fireplace is a bit high to mount the tv over, the pic you show has a lovely round mirror and the tv at a much better height for viewing. Sit on a chair against the opposite wall and see what viewing angle is comfortable before you do that. Can you have a large sofa (3 seater) along the wall opposite the tv? You could than have a snuggler chair or just an additional armchair or two if space is an issue. A floorplan would provide a full background and we could advise you better on layout issues. Your image is lovely. I love the neutral wall colour....See More- 8 years ago
