Recess bathroom ideas

I was going to line this in oak, some glass shelves and a spot light up top. Am I a little old fashioned?

Silicone a mirror into the recess and then glass shelves. Best of both an dcould look great.

Not if you love the look! I think it could look great. Personally I'd love some light wood open shelves to give it a brighter touch. Maybe a ceramics display?

I like it, could you put a sheet of mirror behind, will look amazing, lighten up the room and make it look bigger. Still team it with the oak though, make it look solid and classic.

Update -- my plumber finally returned. Not sure what he did while here, but he told me again it wasn't working -- then he did some work on a radiator which had a small leak. We were having a long discussion about options on pumps, new showers, taps etc and I read out the installation guide and he tried it again, and suddenly it worked. It is bizarre as I don't know how many times i tried it previously. My friend who works in construction ALSO called earlier today and tried it several times to no avail. It must have been extremely stiff or perhaps the plumber realised some airlock whilst fixing the radiator since I think water pressure is much stronger since he went. Thanks for everyones help -- i learned lots on plumbing and a valuable lesson to take out the installation manuals myself and not trust that trades men know everything!!! I feel like celebrating!!

Hi there! I'm Adam, one of the designers here at Bathroom Eleven. We would usually always strip everything back as waterproofing is important to be done properly. And, as mentioned above, there may be pipes or wastes in the wall you may need access to. Better to do it all once properly, than find an issue down the line and pay twice. @annabellaamy the plumber said the joiner will be able to do it. I am hoping the 100 year old house has cavity space behind the plasterboard and not just plaster over brick 🙈

How's your storage in the bathroom?

You could do what you've mentioned, but also, how about having a row of small drawers the full width of the recess and about 4" tall perhaps at the bottom. Yes they would be small but look pretty neat and wouldn't take up too much room.

This will give you a bit of extra storage for smaller items - make-up, razors, small face-packs (my wife has loads!) :-)

never use silicone to fix a mirror dependant o. what silicone you use it eats through the glaze .use proper mirror glue

Sorry I meant proper mirror glue. I did it last week with a huge mirror and it looks great. (Supported on batten until it had cured though).

I installed a mirror in a 1.5m wide x 850mm high recess, and it looks brilliant. I lined the reveals with mosaic tiles, although kept the cill in a white tile, which now look twice as deep. I also installed de-misting heat pads to the back of the mirror first, which switch on together with the flexible LED strip light which I attached on the 'ceiling' of the recess, against the mirror (having allowed for an electrical connection for both first, of course.) My last step still to do, is to fit a chrome batten to the 'ceiling' reveal in front of the LED strip, so that the light source is hidden and not as 'dotty' and bright as in this photo.
