Hi Clare, sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I hadn't realised that I had received a message. It was a Wienerberger blended orange gilt stock I believe.

Painted houses are very costly to maintain. You can get special paint which lasts for x years which is quite expensive but as the red brick is attractive I would personally leave it. As your doors are fully glazed, you should be getting the maximum amount of light into your hall now? Is the hall decorated and furnished so as to maximise light? If you want to improve on the plain look I would suggest looking at glazed doors with panels or even consider adding a canopy.

Personally i'd say, if you're going to such lengths with a new garage, extension possibly the porch etc, which is a lot. I would render the whole front of the house and garage to tie the whole project together. However, you can't see much of the brick of the garage on the front, just the piers. Looking closely at them, I think the garage brick was slightly different to the main house and wonder if it was already an addition? Also, if you look at the bricks above the line of where the garage has come down, the top bricks are a different colour to the bottom. So 1, 2 & 3 are all different colour bricks. 1 and 2 are very similar, but to me there is a subtle difference as 1 doesn't contain any darker bricks and is very slightly brighter red.

It’s quite difficult to see from the photos as the scaffolding is still up and we have mahogany windows which are very dated and I don’t want to keep. The fascias around the roof are black but I feel that the fascia is so large that black will be too huge and stark. I’m feeling in a dilemma. I hope the photos help a little.

I’m in agreement with Ribena. Do think carefully before going ahead. When we moved into our current house 30 years ago we had a brick wall built to separate the kitchen from the dining area on the end of the peninsula. It was a bad decision. Dust, muck and the like collected in the joints despite vacuuming it. When we had a new kitchen it got taken back out. It created such a mess taking it back out but at least I now have clean surfaces.
