We are in the market of selling luxury furniture, so would recommend quality and style above all. If you can afford luxury new items thats all very well, they are beautifully made and offer gorgeous styles that can stand the test of time. However, we also understand not everyone has the budget to be able to do so. If your budget is lower, be savvy and buy traditional or contemporary pieces at auction. Use your imagination and buy quality second hand furniture and accessories that are design classics for a fraction of the price. Use interior design techniques that feature colour and textures to bring out the best in your choices. You can then incorporate inexpensive items as long as they are interestingly designed. Inexpensive ....and dull...is definitely not an option.

I would have to say a hanging willow pod.. it adds an element of play yet at the same time a place within which to relax. It can be nestled in anywhere as it isn't dependant on the surface of the ground and built to fit as few or as many people as you'd like. Purists will take a sharp intake of breath at my comments below, but without any fun, what joy will you really get from the chair? Any piece of furniture should be a joy to see and use for the owner, regardless of it's value to anyone else. Even if this is an antique, after all it is only a chair and you should do what you like with it to enjoy it whilst you can, without concern over what someone else may feel bout YOUR chair. Financial value is only realised when you sell something, are you planning on selling this? if not, go for it! Think about the location this chair is going to be used in. What colours bring you joy - canary yellow, marigold orange, or softer blues and greys? Choose your fabric first and then paint in a complimentary colour (look up a colour wheel to find out about complimentary colours), but bear in mind the hue and tone of the colour as this is a tricky thing to get right. Or you could pick out an accent colour in the fabric and have your paint colour mixed to match. Once stripped of any oil based paint, you can paint furniture with water based paints and either wax or varnish with a water based (acrylic) varnish to protect the paint finish. Remember, sometimes less is more, be bold, be brave and go play! Good luck,
