Comments (2)Planning is different in Scotland to the rest of UK - ( I'm based in England- but have worked on projects in Scotland ) so I'd suggest a quick trip to the local council offices to ask their advice or try the planning portal ( link below) - I should imagine they will suggest fire escape sized windows and ask about clearance heights for stairs leading up to this room to have sufficient head height etc . Possibly they will ask you to put in place fire doors elsewhere in the building too ? I think if I'm sure they will be most helpful. You will probably require a 'certificate of lawfulness' too - dependent of the size of your project and windows you'd like to put in - this will affect planning ! https://eplanning.scotland.gov.uk/WAM/...See MoreI want to build a breakfast bar
Comments (3)You can get granite off cuts all over the place. Then, why not buy a cabinet that you like and put the top on it yourself. It will be very heavy therefore 'grip fix' type adhesive should do the trick. Infinitely cheaper than any other option. Plus you can paint the cabinet any colour you like ! x Just make sure that your slab of granite is bigger than the cupboard to create a good edge for you to tuck a couple of stools under for instance. ! x Lots of people use the same method for bathroom sinks....See Morebreakfast bar urgent advice needed
Comments (6)It would normally sit on large brackets fabricated to take the weight and I believe the granite is honed underneath to take the depth of the bracket so that they are flush with the underneath . I think maybe if we saw the design then it would be easier to suggest something. These guys ship to the UK Original Granite Bracket...See MoreBreakfast bar in a small kitchen - yes or no? (and how!?)
Comments (12)I don't feel this room really fits a peninsula but obviously you'd like to sit with a view so putting sitting facing the window is a perfect solution. The sink doesn't need to be in front of the window as you hardly spend any time washing up these days, especially with a dishwasher. Move this to the left and continue the top over with leg space (perhaps 300 deep units for a sneaky bit of storage). Alternatively, could you have one door to the garden and do Carolina's idea over the other door? good luck Emily...See Morejacksplash
