I am looking for the best way to dress windows which are set high up?

I am currently working on a penthouse property in Cumberland terrace which looks over the gorgeous Regent's Park. however they sit high up and the top go the windows almost reach the ceiling and end half way up the wall, (see photo). Would roman blinds be best for this type of window or curtains? It needs to be of a high end finish!

Any suggestions much appreciated guys.

Hi. Could you not use some kind of ceiling fixture, rail, pole etc? I'm assuming the view is key so blinds or shutters will obscure it to some degree

The idea is to install sheers and roman blinds as I feel the windows are too high up the wall to have curtains?

Hello Rosie, Okaaay..... THAT boy needs a hobby and it "ain't" you! Here's what you could do in a subtle way that doesn't necessarily say. "I know what you did this summer" How about a sudden love of a very big flower arrangement... Can be fabulous faux! That way, you can remain aloof and he can jolly well go and get a book and learn something. Better not be floristry.. :))

Laura, you could use a 10mm ripplefold track for sheers inside the reveal, it would cut out some vision width-ways, but would give you screening. Your windows open outwards which is a bonus. No nick-nacks on your windowsill with this though! Your radiator is not in an ideal location, (well traditionally it is thought to be so!). A curved track on the wall would be good if you have stack back space either side. Pamela is correct Silent Gliss would be a good choice. If you want lighter curtains you could use a 'uni' - unlined fabric or use a very light interliner matched to your fabric. Bradley do a 'French' pole which curves back to the wall. If its a living room then probably its your evenings that concern you. A sheer will still give you some privacy, & cut out some sunlight if needed. Double poles are available for two treatments, this is standard in high end or hospitality. Try Nya Nordiska Lana Lino for a wool sheer that doesn't stretch and hangs well.

I don't seem to be able to edit my post so can't correct my typos but here are some images. Showing the light that comes in around a standard blind and the same blind closed Showing the bloc blind we have that got damaged on first use so let's a bit of light in where the fabric creased, otherwise does a reasonable job but is very ugly. I wonder if I could fit a roman blind or valance over it? (2 pictures one showing closed completely and one open as it seems to almost disappear!) The window that needs a new blind or curtains. it has a gro blind and broken venetian that came with the house currently!

Sorry I hadn't noticed that you'd replied with the measurements! That really helps to visualise the space. So one suggestion (which you've probably already thought of!) would be to have your U-shaped kitchen on the right as you come into the room, with the peninsula coming out on the long wall about half way along. That would zone the kitchen quite nicely. Then position the dining table towards the corner by the window. I would turn the sofa so that it's looking out to the garden rather than looking at a wall, perhaps with a single chair and coffee table so it's a conversational space, with a rug underneath to clearly zone that area (or as you have young children perhaps dispense with the coffee table as that might be where they want to play on the rug), but perhaps you want a TV there? If so, you could put the TV on the external wall to the right of the windows and position the sofa across there (again looking out towards the garden), moving the dining table and chairs to the left so there's a clear view out to the garden when you're eating. There are a lot of kitchen units in your image. Do you need that many? It could be a really lovely space but I think it would be good to be quite ruthless with your priorities, so that you don't end up with a crowded space. E.g. rationalise the number of kitchen units, go for a 4 seater dining table rather than 6-8 (you could always have a folding table and chairs stored somewhere for when you have more guests, but 95% of the time it will probably be just the 4 of you and you need space for high chairs etc), choose a neat sofa design so it's not a space hogger, etc. Unless you are going to have built in seating, make sure there's good circulation space all the way around your dining table - with little ones especially you are constantly getting up to help them, or going round cleaning up crumbs from under their chairs - and you don't want to have to squeeze past a sofa or peninsula to do that. I think it's also important to create distinct areas of the room - although it's not huge, it will function more clearly and look nicer if your eye immediately understands where the kitchen, dining and relaxing areas are (I think the layout in your image would feel a bit muddled as the kitchen takes over the whole wall and the dining table is floating in the middle). Just a few thoughts - hope that helps!

I think it will look fine and make the ceiling look higher. Not terribly good pics attached but vaguely similar. It also depends on what style the room is? I could well be wrong but if I was overlooking Regent's Park I personally would want a clear view out as a window dressing isn't obviously needed for privacy. You could also look at some kind of pelmet but the ceiling doesn't look high enough in the pic

I think these windows are not too high up but are not large.
I think full length curtains will make the ceiling feel higher than roman blinds and trick your eye so you don't notice the windows are high.
For a luxurious feel I would have pale and full curtains with a punch of bright velvet on the selvedge edge.
