How do you achieve the voiles and curtain combination?

This photo has the cream curtains hanging on a curtain pole mounted to the wall, with what looks like pinch pleat heading on the curtains. The voiles look like they have a 3" tape, possibly single pinch pleat which is then hung on a curtain track that sits below the curtain pole. As the track has a smaller profile to the pole, the voiles site behind the curtains, closer to the window. You could purchase a double curtain pole set and have a layered treatment. We were in Rome recently and the hotel rooms all had these double treatments. So quite continental.

What I also recommend is using a Silent Gliss 1090 curtain track and a Silent Gliss Metropole in front using the longest 0537 bracket. This allows a bit of space in between the voile and main curtain. These are alos available from the Pole Design online shop.

No problem. I think I'd be tempted by the Pleated blinds as you can have the sheer fabric you wanted. With the Roller blinds, they include a opaque stripe with a translucent stripe which you can then slide against each other to create opaque opaque for privacy or light control. They aren't available in blackout fabrics unfortunately - I'm not sure why the fabrics wouldn't be showing, but they're available in two ranges - cascade and lustre. Lustre has just that, a slight shimmer, and the colours range from neutrals, to black, silver, gold and red. A good wide angle lens to avoid distortions, a tripod, knowledge of white balance (essential if there are lights on, or varying light sources), and ability to use the camera manually rather than auto. A flash is useful too.. Point upwards to the ceiling. Also, lights on shouldn't be a rule...it really should depend on the room and light type, for example side table lamps can add atmosphere and warmth to the shot. Often lights render the image too yellow though (this is where knowledge of adjusting white balance manually comes in), and can appear as a big glaring blob on the photo. I would avoid ceiling lights unles they are small spotlights/down lighters. And get the composition right....usually a photo taken from the corners of a room works best. Detail shots (different lens needed) are sometimes required, but I don't really get why estate agencys sometimes include a photo of a vase of flowers...

Shutters are a classic, timeless look that goes well with various interiors. I found a few client photos with windows similar to yours. We had another client who opted for a boxed pelmet with pinch pleate curtains which could work with your window. It creates a very clean and elegnt look. Plus voiles for extra privacy but still allows light in. Similar but with a voile curtain To save on costs you can forgo the pelemt box, pinch pleats or eyelets look stylish as is.

For a double layered treatment we also think its a good idea to combine the 60mm and 80mm Wave like we did for this London customer. All the tracks were Silent Gliss 3840 ceiling fixed and cord operated Silent Gliss 3840 corded with 80mm Wave. This is a new build apartment block and the customer fitted the tracks in the recess and outside the recess. The sheer was the smaller 60mm Wave and the main curtains 80mm Wave which were unlined blackout fabric for privacy. It worked out really well and the customer supplied all the measurements and managed to professionally hand them with our online assistance. On this project, the client's number one concern was light exclusion. So the curtains, whilst made from a medium weight ivory linen, are inter-lined, black-out lined and lined: four layers of fabric hand-stitched together to achieve a luxury wadded feel as well as complete light occlusion. However, during the day, some privacy was needed. We used a double metal pole (a "French Pole") from The Bradley Collection, which allowed us to hang a second pair of curtains made in a sheer linen from GP & J Baker (the curtain heading is a simple pencil pleat). The further advantage of the French Pole from The Bradley Collection is that the pole has curved side returns. This allows the curtains to be pulled back to the wall so that no light comes into the room at the side of the curtains. The pole on this project was particularly wide at 4 metres.
