Brilliant ideas needed for a small kitchen

Awkward small kitchen with 2 doors and not much space for a table/ eating area.

Draw the plan out of graph paper, to scale, and carry out a few exercises on tracing paper.

A good kitchen designer will help with layout, and may even provide 3D visualisations.

Doors always take up space...consider removing them and even walls. If you are looking to remodel the building itself consider using a qualified architect who will help guide you through the entire process. Even a mall extension (1 or 2 metres out) can significantly increase the size of a room. You may also require engineers calculations. How many to eat ? How often ? Any area elsewhere you can liberate and use for extra storage or as a breakfast nook or space for fold down table etc ?

The smallest kitchens are the ones that require the most innovation !

Sounds like you could benefit from spending quality time with an excellent kitchen designer ...

If you can't get that one to one time with someone for free in a busy showroom - then perhaps consider hiring an independent designer (like me!) working with you to get results that suit the room - but also suit you !!!

Most kitchen companies will offer a discount when you rock up with your own set of plans - as
1. It means you are a genuine buyer -not just come on out of the rain
2. It saves them time and travel
3. They know you will be shopping around so they need to give you their best price to be in with a chance of securing your business !

So it's money well spent !!

hi, I agree that turning the kitchen into ensuite bedroom is a smart move, as the current layout means that you have to walk from the kitchen (with the meals) through the bathroom? Or maybe there's another access, but still open plan kitchen / sitting / dining room would work better. They often say, when buying furniture for a small space, choose the ones with built in storage (bed base with sliding drawers, puffs that open up, built in wardrobes if possible, etc.). Also when choosing tables, don't go for chunky pieces, but buy the glass ones, with thin legs, so they create the effect of bigger space. fix few mirros on the walls? Maybe large wall to floor mirror in one place (if you can stand them!). Plenty of shelving, tall, but slim units would work best. Also have you got a loft in the house? you can keep some of the stuff there. Last port of call is always just to rent a storage unit (you can find surprisingly cheap ones these days), and store the stuff you don't use every day. Lovely house and location btw!

Hello, If you have got a Dining Room area already, try not to load in more, especially not a sofa. Maybe you could have a Breakfast bar installed but again, if you have other place where you can sit down and enjoy your meal than is no point to take more space of a tiny kitchen. You should rather have it functional. Since you don't have a big space, try to pick light colours, like white, beige, yellow, light blues or greys.. Also, adding mirrors is an other good idea to make your Kitchen look more spacious and lighter. I collected some images for you as you said you like rustic, mediterranean or contemporary style. Have you thought of maybe combining two different styles? I personally like a mix of traditional or retro and contemporary style. I would suggest you to add some colours to your space and don't make it look boring. On these images you will also see some lovely worktops that would go for rustic or mediterranean style. You could consider getting wooden cabinets in white rustic style, even baby blue would look gorgeous. If you are going to have a contemporary style kitchen you could get a coloured glass panel splashback and some ornaments in the same colour. What a lovely thing to able to plan a new home! Wish you lots of luck, there is nothing much wrong with the kitchen as it is, so I would try living in the space for a while before taking the sledgehammer to anything. It doesn't look as though the light is being blocked by the high kitchen units so maybe they could stay and have a wider surface fitted so that you could have a breakfast bar on the other side and do away with the dining table area. You could use the tall wall cupboard system that Ikea do to combine extraction and storage above the cooker. If you like wood, take a look on ebay for iroko worktops they are really lovely and chunky and look better as they age. The doors you can change easily for something funkier try kitchenwarehouse uk online for a great range of replacement doors. If you want something boho they do a range of glossy doors in contemporary colours. You could have a boho look just by putting some colourful glasses in the see-through cupboard and lighting it. Hope your move goes well, give it time to settle in and you can have fun with the space on any size of budget.

Hi - hope you don’t mind a non colour related remark? In order for the fridge doors to be able to own fully properly, you will need space the right of the FF, between it and the wall. So perhaps move the ff over one cupboard to the left and use the space that cupboard and wall units provided with a tall cabinet and top box instead. That will give the FF door the room it need to swing properly. ( and have ovens with recessed handles to avoid denting the FF door on the oven handles ) Also from a design perspective, that’s a lot of wall cabinets to have both sides ...It might be an idea to have the side with tall cabinetry ‘fully loaded ‘ with wall cabinets - but to keep the other side with just base cabinets and a ceiling installed extractor, therefore keeping it as clear as it can be - otherwise you may feel this is a very imposing and enclosed space. One last comment - then I’ll shut up and carry on rendering this project that I’m up early working on.... If you change the bulk of the drawer line base cabibets in to pan drawers ( one shallow and two deep) base cabinets. It makes them more accessible, rather than having to bend down to see what’s at the back of a dark base unit.

Completely agree with one plan, we are one of those kitchen companies Oneplan mentions that will give a customer a keen price on the supply or supply and installation of a kitchen that has been designed properly by an independent kitchen designer. All we really need to do is choose finishes etc. with the customer, go round do a check measure and overall saves us a lot of time.
