Help with Living Room Layout

hi,

The living room in my new house is L-shaped. having trouble to find the best layout. any suggestion on where i should put the sofa in the picture to maximise the feel of space? if it's not a corner sofa, a 2/3 seater sofa where should I put it?

the room is about 5.5m wide and 4.8m long at the longest side.

appreciate it if someone can give me some ideas.

Try moving piano to the wall on the left as you walk into the room ,then move sofa to the wall on the far left ,of where the chair is now

This will free up the room making it easier to walk around and feel larger

Hi Alice, This is close to my heart because Iived in pretty ugly / poverty style shared accommodation for far longer than I like to admit (ahh the dream of an Aussie in London...) anyway, here is one idea, but it might take some talking to your landlord about (especially ask if your landlord can take away the tv unit altogether and put it in another property ) and then hang the TV on the wall - (you might have to buy a new tv if its an old style one). Treat the ugly radiator like a "mantel piece" ok its ugly (i totally understand), but when you confront it in this way you might get some better ideas for how to cover it. For now the cheapest option is to put a shelf above it (you'll need to ask your landlord again - put persuade them that it will increase the functionality of the room ten-fold as at the moment its useless).. The landlord might be open to you painting the radiator too... It wil be a big task depending on the style, but at least it won't be obviously "beige, dirty and discoloured - which I am imagining it is...) I hope this helped you a little bit? Do you have a floor plan and photos? It would just help to know how big the hall would be, impact on existing furniture etc and maybe people could give ideas for something other than the hall table if needed? i couldn't find great pictures as it's hard to know what to put in the search key but you could also have a glass partition wall which would give you the feeling of space but still allow hall furniture im not entirely sure how you'd hang them (!) but you could also try hanging sheets where the wall would be and live with it for a while to see what you think. Obviously it wouldn't give you the benefits of heat and sound that the wall would but would give you a proper idea of the space and privacy from front door etc

One of the things people tend to do when arranging furniture in a room is push all the furniture to the perimeter of the room. Bring the left sofa tighter into the middle of the room. Then place a narrow console behind it to give you an area for some slim lamps and some pretty bits, You could even have a narrow bookcase type thing on that wall. Let us know what you think if you try it :)
