Any Ideas to improve hall way?

we need a change but we have no clue on any ideas. Can you help?

Remove dark curtains and add voile the side opposite the door opening, change wall paper it's all to black.Accent colour and some mirrors to create light and place a few well placed items to add warm.

Hello again and thank you so so much for all your comments and suggestions. I read all of them and I visited our architect today. This is what we came up with. I think it is also what @nmshea recommended. I think this looks much better and is what we wanted. I just want to mention that we live in Cyprus where it's very hot most of the time so we need the big balconies and double doors. Also the small bedroom will be eventually a kids bedroom and not so much of a guest room but it's not that important now. So this is the plan with the last changes made. What do you think? Do you prefer L-shaped sofa or a 3-seater and a 2-seater? Thanks again to everyone who has commented :)

I love the space, you could make it something wonderful! Keep the stair carpet and lose the curtain and also the wallpaper. I wouldn't personally add more wallpaper. A bright colour on at least one wall would look great ... something fun like a lime green or orange!? as well as or instead of ... some big colourful canvases would look fabulous ... or get someone to paint a mural. Lots of artists around that would love to help. You could just make it a gallery wall with a variety of pieces over time. Keep to softer edges, ... even the picture of the flower has quite hard edges. Again you could use something with a bit of splash ... you can get two tone organza fabric that changes in the light. I am not one for trends, as suggested above choose things you like. I also like a bit of fun so consider having some fun with it, and it can still be elegant.

Thanks for comments, reassuring to see ideas are ones we are considering already :-) I have taped out central corridor (looks fine) and partition to separate landing to accommodate bed 3 or bathroom. It is smaller than bed 3 so might be tight for double bed, but can always consider sofa bed as only for occasional use. Current bed 3 would be massive for bathroom but might be able to incorporate large (linen) cupboard which is currently lacking. House is south facing so sun rises on right side, round back and sets to left, hence I spend most my days in kitchen. Have been thinking about a 2/3 wide extension over dining area and current extension, but not sure how this would affect flow for current dining area if to open current window, or to restrict to current access to extension. Lots of food for thought, would next step be to find architect for some sketches? Is this something that would be done after choosing and agreeing a contract with one?

The houzz app has a sketch function. I took a screen shot of your hallway pic at full size, saved some images from the web and was able to use the sketch app to insert and overlay into your pic. Only taken me a couple of years of using houzz to figure it out!!
