Reclaimed wood for floating shelves

Hi,
I'm looking for reclaimed wood to for to create floating shelves in our kitchen. Does anyone know a supplier in London?

Hmm sounds like a beautiful idea - mixing the contemporary white kitchen with rustic wood. I did a quick search on google shopping and found quite a few, but none have lights in them. Perhaps a bit of DIY will be required? We have under-cabinet lighting which come on when we walk into the room and they were very easy to source, as as yours will be floating you could get fibre-optic lights that can stick to the base? Personally I'd keep it really simple and light. Paint the upper cabinets to tone with the tiles, or think about replacing the doors with glazed ones—more practical than open shelving, but a similar spacious look. If you were feeling really adventurous you could paper the back of them with mirror leaf/silver leaf for a reflective glow that would also open out the space further. I like the idea of painting the lower doors charcoal (or a warmer grey if you prefer), your room looks very bright so it can take it. A vibrant long rectangular image along the end wall to visually widen the space, characterful rugs and some cheerful kitchen paraphernalia/flowers and I think you'd have a lovely space! You're very lucky, it's really just tweaking.

I have had some experience with 'off the shelf' floating shelves. Beware they can be very flimsy and care must be taken to ensure very little is placed on them. They are really only for display and wont take much weight. Also the brackets often are not very secure. I would advise not to use them to store books or any other heavy items, glass vases etc. Having said that they fill a blank wall very cheaply and smartly.

Thank you all for your votes and comments. @Pallas, it depends on the space one have, and how many books/ items you want to display at once. Some people prefer to have just one shelf mounted on wall so it doesn't take up much space and some prefer a bookcase which allows for more items to be displayed at once and it's easy to move around if needed. We just wanted to find out which option people find more attractive.
