Need help for my new open plan kitchen/living
Comments (28)As an owner of a large glass kitchen table (octagonal btw) I would not recommend getting one! Especially if you have children. Octagonal shape is great as every guest gets a side, but glass shows fingerprints, even little dust etc. and underneath the table top as well! Harder to clean too. Then you would probably want to get placemats as it's not a nice feeling/sound when you put plates and cutlery on the glass....See MoreHelp layout & plans of my open plan kitchen diner & side extension
Comments (13)Thanks for these. Im not sure if we can do the extra corner bit for number five, but I do like the layout, it will depend on cost, also don't need two tv areas, as we have a front lounge in the house anyway. the office was supposed to be a mixed use room, as a playroom with kids storage and also an occasional bedroom, so sofa bed In there. I know many people have hobs and sinks on islands, but I just think i'll end up dumping things on there.. I have four in the family, two adults, two kids, but we have a lot of people round for entertaining and parties, so space is what I'm after, but was also looking for somewhere the kids can go out of the way from adults if need be. As for kitchen, the reason for having large larder is to put not only food/drink spare fridge in there, but also things we don't use all that often in the kitchen, equipment etc.. I like everything clean and hidden away. The office on number 5 would be separate anyway as this concept includes sliding doors, which fold into the wall, so only entrance would be from outside, not sure if I can afford these yet though. Please keep suggestions coming, or alternatives, all welcome as I can't visualise.. thanks...See MoreMy first attempt at planning my kitchen - 2D/3D included - be gentle!
Comments (17)You are all amazing! This is really helping our thinking process. We have considered banquette seating and certainly a bench, at times we might need to squash family around the table. Thinking extra storage underneath it. The peninsula isn't feeling so bad, Minnie the pictures are great. Like the shelving in the corner and can still have a run of tall cupboards. Manabout, wondering if the island is going to look too big in the center. Feel a bit scared a repeating my friend's mistake! The room that is going to be the kitchen has to have walls removed to make one room but i can plot this out in the first floor living room, newspaper on the floor, just to try it out. Worrying a little about the table position, how that would feel if it isn't centered on the doors. I am quite 'symmetrical' and 'matchy matchy' when I organize and plan. Finding the new eclectic styling (which I do love) a bit of a struggle! Consensus is definitely the 'kitchen' in that end of the room, rather than the bigger space currently planned for dining?...See Morereconfiguration of downstairs - please critique my initial plan
Comments (6)Personally I think the room would be plenty light enough without additional side windows- they would also have no view and limit cabinet placement in the kitchen. If you want a pantry you could build one next to the wc- personally I think the expense is unjustifiable when there are beautiful pantry cabinets that you can buy with your kitchen. Shower room- unless you have need for a downstairs shower I would put an ensuite upstairs. Utility room - Lots of flats have internal kitchens and bathrooms so it is commonplace. You can vent along the joists or go upwards through the suggested ensuite and then through the roof- in fact then you can put extractor fans in the loft so the fans are quieter in your shower room and utility. Noise- you can add extra insulation designed to dampen noise so your living room should be unaffected. Ensuite waste- I envisage this going down from the ensuite, through my suggested utility room and then under the hall floor. (Given the age of house I imagine you have a void under wooden floorboards so the soil pipe would go there and meet the drains that are almost certainly in the drive.)...See More123rd
