Getting rid of clutter
Comments (9)Hello Thea, Well it certainly is a hard one if you can't bare to throw things out and perhaps have a go at making a few piles of absolute musts to slightly less important.. It's a psychological thing really especially when items hold sentimental importance. So try this and really identify if you can what is absolutely sacred. Another way of dealing with things like photos etc is and this is something I have. I have a Chinese style trunk with cards and things from my childhood up to current. It's square, fits with my decor well and on top I use it as a "bar" with a few glasses and a few decanters. It sits near the fireplace and so it has multi functions. So perhaps consider something similar of a style that suits your home. Then you can keep things but not necessarily have them all on view. In this way you can make what you do display more important and perhaps change things round... So you make different displays over periods of time. Things then have their day and you're not lost so to speak. These ideas may be of some help or give you ideas of your own that may be useful. :))...See MoreBathroom cleaning tips - what works for you?
Comments (26)From a radiator expert's viewpoint, the key is ensuring you heat the room adequately and for bathrooms we keep them warmer generally due to lack of clothes! If you call us on 01274 515734 with your room measurements and your towel radiator measurements and we can advise if the towel rail you have currently is suitable. You don't want to buy a new radiator if there is no need! Going for a "dual fuel" radiator is also a good suggestion as these come with a summer heating element for use when the central heating is turned off. We offer these on all our ladder style towel radiators. Keeping the bathroom warm will help with condensation but it can't eliminate it. The steam condenses on a cold surface, so good insulation and keeping the water level to a minimum is very important. So add cavity wall, double glazing, if possible and encourage the steam to escape with open windows and good extractor fans. However from personal experience, this is often still not enough and a squigee and an old towel for drying those prone areas before the mould develops is your best bet. Although it is a pain to dry the shower after use, it is much easier than trying to remove mould later on. Good luck! I can sympathise! Regards A rubbish housekeeper :)...See MoreKitchen layout tips
Comments (21)Thanks for all the advice guys! that's awesome. Can't wait to get home from work and look through them all more thoroughly and try some ideas out. I hadn't thought about the fridge and larder making the room less open, thank you, I'll definitely try fix that! Unfortunately the space to the left of the window above the sink is only about 90cm, granted I probably haven't shown it that small on the model. The window at the end of the kitchen is just about high enough to fit a counter underneath so that is an interesting idea too. I did have a plan which did that so I think I'll try that again. I do quite like having the cooker facing out into the room on the island. I have had a kitchen island with and without a cooker before and i defininetly preferred having the cooker there. And thanks Lauren, I'm currently hoping to have an overhead extractor and channel out of the room, boxed up and painted on the ceiling. I've heard mixed reviews of the island mounted extractors too. I've had problems having to open windows due to inadequate extractors and it getting steamy everywhere. so many good ideas...See More1960s Courtyard House - kitchen tips/ideas
Comments (33)Hi @whizzywig - this is the current layout: On the ground floor the lounge, small bedroom and main bedroom all look out onto the courtyard so the glass is in place but could do with an update eventually. We acutally viewed some Span estate houses with a view to buying - Field End, Cedar Chase, Weymede, The Plantation. But in the end we found this place on a small estate in SE London that fitted the bill....See MoreArt Decor Designs
