POLL: TV in the bedroom - yay or nay?
Comments (51)I had a TV in my bedroom for most of my adult life, because I was living in a house share or a studio. Whenever I've lived in my own home - which I have for the last fifteen years - and had a separate bedroom, I've not had a TV in the bedroom. I haven't had one for the last eight years and I would hate to have one again. It's sort of intrusive and it has a negative impact on my sleep. I have a radio next to my bed and will listen to that quietly because it can be soothing. I love watching TV, just not where I sleep....See MorePOLL: Nursery - separate room or in the bedroom?
Comments (21)We went to anti natal class before we had our daughter and the midwife 'teaching' I use the term loosely, asked what to do when I baby is crying and you've done everything you can think of 3 fold. My partner said let baby self soothe to which the midlife replied very sternly "never ever let a baby self soothe if they are crying it is because they are need something" this lady was no older than 20 had no children of her own so instead of speaking from experience she quoted and requoted the national guidelines. Since we were first time parents, naive and let's be honest terrified and since she had 'told off' my partner, we never let our little girl self soothe so she never learned how. She screamed 12 hours a day never slept more than 2 hour stints until she was 2. My partner and I were running on fumes. When I'd had enough and thought I was loosing my mind I let her self sooth (it was the most heartbreaking thing I've ever done) now she sleeps through the night she is 3 and is a genuinely content child. Very different from the uncontent screaming baby/toddler... Government guidelines are exactly that, they are guidelines. Comments (36)I like Jonathon’s first drawing for a couple of reasons. You can have a walk in wardrobe for all the hanging clothes, which can end up looking a bit messy, and have the more traditional type of wardrobe for items that can be boxed up, such as handbags and shoes, and folded clothes / drawer items. I think a walk in wardrobe is better without a window as natural light can fade clothes, so much better to have a bright bathroom with 2 windows. Finally, as you’re building the internal walls from scratch you could look into having a pocket door system into the en suite thereby preventing a swinging door getting in the way of either the wardrobe or the shower....See Morehi I am trying to find the best way to create a bedroom
Comments (18)As I say, I can't reconcile the dimensions. There appears to be a 2ft ( roughly ) discrepancy across the width of the house. ie, if the kitchen is 22ft long, then I can't make the lounge, Hallway and study fit in to that measurement. The lounge and study add up to 19ft, which would leave 3ft for the Hallway and staircase, so that wouldn't work, and something is amiss. Also, the study is down as 1.45m which isn't 7'10".......I had to make it a rough guide! So, this is what i'd go for as a plan b, following the initial amendment upstairs.................If you did the extension.............it would look roughly like this:- I managed to fix the dimensions, so later i'll put them back on Plan A x...See Morecarthiefintexas
