A pop of vibrant colour: Which one works best in the kitchen?

Comments (22)I think pale grey or taupe would look fab and it will keep your lovely room bright. Love the worktop. Farrow & Ball do some beautiful taupe and grey shades. Whatever colours you like, get match pots and paint them on A4 card and place them on the worktop at different spots so you get an idea of how the shades work with the worktop, rather like Carolina’s idea. Here’s a couple of pics. I don’t know the colours but hope it helps....See MoreWhat’s the best layout for kitchen/diner/family space
Comments (10)Hi. We have a back room similar to this and 3 small kids!! here are my thoughts: kids need space! they have friends over and toys. We have rearranged our layout loads and found it’s very helpful to be Able to be flexible So for this reason I prefer the architects design for the location of the kitchen - as it’s to the side and then you can be flexible with the whole other half of the space.( It will also give you much more scope for a future side extension without redoing the whole kitchen). assuming You have full height storage across the whole back wall behind the door you will be able to contain all the kids toys as well as surplus kitchen bits. I would keep any non-day-to-day Crockery, baking bits etc along this back wall and keep only the everyday kitchen bits along the main kitchen wall. You could maybe keep the boiler in this area also so it doesn’t take up space in the kitchen. i would however switch the dining and seating area putting the dining table at the back (squeeze it even running along the storage wall) and keep the whole area By the garden for a sofa and a play area. You will find with small kids this is the area that is used most. When you’re entertaining you just twist the dining table and extend it running towards the garden. And if you don’t like it you have the flexibility to swap the dining and seating area. (We have been known to swap ours with the seasons! If you like entertaining I highly recommend keeping that run free of an island since the island can’t be moved! Hope this makes sense....See MoreBest kitchen cabinet finish for long-lasting style?
Comments (2)Hi Katy, For a 25 year old kitchen, I would look at wooden and painted wooden doors. This means that when (not if) it gets damaged, you can fix it with a quick sand or a repaint. The only reason you replace a wooden kitchen is if you don't like the style any more. The formica and Linoluem will be more durable to knocks and bumps but once it's damaged, there is no repairing it. Fenix has great reviews about just applying heat and it self repairing but I've not seen it myself. It is a very different look to painted though so it depends on the feel of the room you are looking for. I'm a completely independent kitchen designer so if you want to bouce some ideas around and get an honest opinion, rather than a sales pitch, I'm very happy to have a zoom call with a cup of tea for £65/hour or parts of, we can talk about which areas to save costs in, which bits to spend on, which appliances are good or over specced. Basically I can be an independent sounding board for you so you can be sure you're getting the best value for money and not being taken for a ride! You can find out more on my website www.coveykitchens.co.uk Good luck Emily...See Moreminnie101
