Do you let your pets sleep in your bed?

Some people are not keen on having their beloved pets sleeping with them, whereas others don't mind at all - who do you agree with?

mrshste ... and I thought I was alone in disliking en suites for the same reason! I said this to a real estate agent yesterday and he looked totally confused ... like I was a martian from another planet ... it did make me laugh. I also agree with you re modern bland supposed minimalism ... although I love the original concept of minimalism which was anything but bland or even very white.

Weekly? Oh, how I wish it were only weekly. I'm out there nearly every day culling the three-cornered leek that has reappeared as a thick blanket despite me culling it in the first spring I was here, in my new house, then finding it had reappeared hugely aggressively last year and now, in my third spring, it's even thicker and even more widespread - and is now not only in the flower beds but also in the lawn, thick along the edge, scattered within it. Front and back. It takes about two hours to clear about a square yard - digging under the bulbs; banging off the (very good, I've been told) soil in which there are always several earthworms which I need to hang on to (obviously); then picking out the tiniest bulbs left behind. I don't think I can ever finish it this year - as happened last year - which means the problem will go on for decades. I don't really have the time (I need to work, I need a life beyond digging and clearing). The only solution I can think of is to bring in help but my budget won't allow that. I value having lawn so paving it over isn't an option. I will have less planting space, which will eventually mean less weeding, but it's not something I can do right now - I've too much to do to bring the indoors up to date. I disagree with Jo DP. The previous owners had a keep it wild policy and now I have this big problem with a massively invasive plant. And, yes, I have tried using it in recipes - it really isn't worth the effort of keeping it under control (to have a limited supply). I'm an experienced and adventurous cook and three-cornered leek is an overrated ingredient, even though it's free and in my garden.

@Christa Taylor. Most aggression in dogs tends to be fear based. She is basically telling everyone to go away. Have you had her all her life? There is a crucial socialisation period where a puppy needs to meet all sorts of people and other animals so that she gets used to them. However, some dogs are still fearful despite this socialisation and it is part of their inherited personality. How old is your grandson? If he is older, he could try feeding her tasty snacks so that she gets used to him and sees him as less of a threat. He needs to wait for her to approach, never the other way round. He mustn't try to stroke or pick her up as he could get bitten. Now i could suggest a Dog Behaviourist, but there are so many charlatans out there as it is un-regulated so tread carefully. Your little Chi probably won’t change, but you can manage her safely with help, I do know of a very good Behaviourist in Herts who also carries out Consultations for Wood Green Animal Shelter in Cambs if you want her details?

I'd bashfully have to admit that yes, we do let our pup up on the bed with us at home. He's the first one in bed and the last one up! :D

I never let my dogs sleep in my bed, if for any reason a dog was not well, I would have their bed in the bedroom so I could keep an eye on it. Once, many years ago, when my horse was not well, I made a bed for myself in the stable. I hope my horse felt she was cared for!

Sometimes my cat sleeps on the bed during the day but at night he is strictly locked in the kitchen with his own bed and he is fine - he is so used to it.

I WOULD LOVE MY GORGEOUS LAB TO SLEEP ON OUR BED. MY DOG AT HOME WHEN I GREW UP SLEPT IN BED WITH ME. BUT MY HUSBAND DOESN'T LIKE IT SO SHE SLEEPS IN HER BED NEXT TO OURS, BUT WHEN MY HUSBAND GOES TO WORK SHE COMES UP FOR A CUDDLE. ANN MARIE

Of course ! I think the real question is whether they sleep on top of the bed or under the covers ? My two cheeky cats sleep on the covers in the summer but like to come under the covers in the winter ! the downside is I that I have to de-hair the bed everyday. I keep a special hand held hoover in the bedroom just for this job - but its worth it.

Of course! What is the point of having animal companions if you're fussy about hair. No offence to anyone here!!- but I love my cat and wouldn't dream of stopping her going anywhere. She takes up half the bed but point is- Yes! I proudly say I would allow all my animals on the bed whenever they want, dog(s) or cat (s) :))

No! I don't mind cleaning up floors covered in my dog's hair, but having it all over my bed would drive me crazy so she sleeps in her bed beside mine, that way we're both happy.

All our dogs have always slept on our beds or in if they preferred. We had one wee bichon which slept with my daughter at the foot of her bed under the blankets. Don't know how he breathed under there. Love my dog.

My dog sleeps on the bed, being single it's some company... I wouldn't let me cat on as he's way to hairy and annoying during the night! :)

If I wanted to wake sneezing to a symphony of cat hair, then I would. As I don't, the thought of sharing my bed with an animal is revolting and I suspect my lovely pet, feels exactly the same. We observe boundaries in our house.

LOVE having our jack russell on the bed - I could die of love discovering him with his head on the pillow. Its annoyingly hairy in summer moulting months but you just have to change the sheets more often! Wearing black has become a great luxury.

I do more than that , as our dog is 69 kgs our double wasn't big enough to share , so we bought a 2nd double & pushed them together , also as our dogs got older jumping on the bed became difficult for her , so we got rid of our divan bases & put the matresses on pallets ...... I love my dog ;-)!!!!

Having OCD makes me a bit fussy about hair on my bed but I can't resist my new pup. She sleeps in her bed at night but has a cuddle on my bed in the morning. That's what vacuums are for!

I'd love to have my pup and cats in bed, but my husband won't allow it (he doesn't know about the cuddles after he goes to work though.... sssshhh!)

In the bed, no, never. But on the bed, yes.

I tried for months to keep her out of the bedroom at night but a cat and a closed door that it wants to get in does not a good night's sleep make. She won that battle of wills and now I love having her on the bed. You can't wake up grumpy (at least, not for long) when her little furry face is the first thing that greets you.

Jen Tindall, I have 2 cavaliers myself! Best dogs ever!! I have 1 Blenheim boy an 1 Tricolor boy! I just had to share that when I saw your baby!! Oh and of course they both sleep in the bed with me!

My two Cavaliers sleep in their own crate in a room that's better blacked out than mine. One of them did sleep in my bed with me one night before I got the second pup when I'd had too much to drink. It was funny to wake to find her head on the pillow too but the experience has never been repeated.

Never until this non moulting little dude arrived, heck our old dogs weren't even allowed upstairs!! but no hair sheding means he can go and sleep wherever he wants. I am obsessed with him and his fluffy cuddles <3

Our 3 cats take to the bed at any given opportunity. Allowed to sleep at foot of the bed only, tho Enda doesn't believe this applies to him - and often wake up with his face on the pillow! Lucy, our part-time mixed terrier (stays with us when sister is away) always sleeps on our bed eventually. But I have drawn the line at her getting INTO the bed with us - which is her preference!

Growing we didn't but our last set of cats acted as if it were a great trauma not to be with us and now its become the norm. One of our girls use to sleep with her head in my husband's hand all night. I've set up cat beds next to ours so they can be close but not bed hogs, it works sometimes :)

I used to allow my Burmese anywhere and the wake up 'boofs' - cat talk for running up the bed and patting me on my face to wake me to feed them - were lovely. Then I started showing and breeding & got more cats. I'd wake to find myself on the edge of the bed while they sprawled out over 7/8ths of it! Now they all sleep in the kitchen, but kittens are due next month and will be born in my bedroom. No doubt my 1st time 'mummy' will bring them onto the bed one at a time, and I just can't wait!!!!!!

My favourite dog gets to sleep with us. The rest I take their beds out from under my bed and they sleep on the floor around my bed. Ultimate intruder protection.

Oh yeah, she sleeps on the bed but only on her own red throw. It would drive me mad if I had cat hair on my covers but I love having her on the bed so this was a win-win solution. Pop the throw into the washing machine every other day and everyone is happy.

Yes. Cat slept on bed when he was poorly. Fortunately cat got better. Cat likes sleeping where I sleep and on my favourite chair.
